1 November 2026: Is your social housing electrical safety compliance up to date?

A major electrical safety deadline is approaching for social landlords across England, bringing important responsibilities for housing associations, local authorities and property management teams.

By 1 November 2026, social landlords must ensure that electrical installations in properties covered by the transitional deadline have been inspected and tested by a qualified professional, alongside the required checks on landlord-provided electrical equipment.

For electricians, this also highlights the growing demand for qualified inspection and testing professionals who understand the latest regulations, including Amendment 4 of the 18th Edition.

At Kelly Energy Training, we provide electrical safety awareness, inspection and testing, and 18th Edition training to help professionals develop the knowledge and skills needed across the industry.

Our latest blog explains who the deadline affects, what's required and how the right training can help.

Today the Brown Book transition ends. The previous version of BS 7671 is withdrawn and BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the Orange Book, is the current standard from 15 October 2026.

From today all electrical work, initial verification, periodic inspection and EICRs are carried out to Amendment 4. There is no extension to the transition period, and you need access to the current edition of BS 7671 to work to it.

Not sure what Amendment 4 changes for the work you do? Our 18th Edition courses, C&G and LCL, are delivered to the new standard at our centre in Enfield. Call the team for the next dates.

Would you know how to spot an electrical risk during a routine property visit?

The LCL Level 2 Award in Electrical Safety Awareness is designed for housing professionals, property managers and maintenance teams who need to recognise potential electrical hazards without carrying out electrical work themselves.

This one day course helps you understand the warning signs to look out for in residential properties, including faulty wiring, overloaded sockets, damaged accessories and unsafe appliances.

You will also gain a clearer understanding of key electrical safety requirements, how to report faults accurately and when an issue needs to be escalated to a qualified electrician or treated as an emergency.

No previous electrical qualifications or experience are required.

If your role involves visiting, inspecting or managing residential properties, this course can help you make safer, more informed decisions and give residents practical advice when needed.

Message the Kelly Energy Training team to find out more about upcoming course dates.

Electricians: important industry changes from today. Are you ready?

From today, 1 October 2026, changes to the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) place greater focus on individual competence across the electrical industry.

The key shift is from company level competence to individual level competence. Electricians, subcontractors, agency workers and qualified supervisors may need to hold specific Level 3 qualifications for the type of work they perform.

If your business is assessed and your workforce does not have the right evidence in place, it could affect compliance, certification and the type of work you are able to carry out. Identifying any gaps now gives you time to arrange the right training.

We offer the relevant electrical and renewables courses, including Level 3 NVQ Qualified Electrician, 18th Edition, Testing and Inspection, EV Charger Installation, Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, Battery Storage and ESS, and PAT Testing.

Unsure which qualification you or your team need? Our team can talk you through the options.

From today, 1 October 2026, changes to the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification (EAS) place greater focus on demonstrating individual competence across certain areas of electrical work.

EAS continues to assess electrical enterprises, but the revised requirements place greater emphasis on the qualifications and competence of individuals carrying out specific types of work. This includes areas such as periodic inspection and testing, EV charging, solar PV and electrical energy storage systems.

Depending on the work being carried out, electricians and Qualified Supervisors may need to demonstrate relevant accepted qualifications, experience and ongoing competence.
If your business is assessed and your workforce does not have the right evidence in place, it could affect your assessment or the scope of work your business can demonstrate competence for. Identifying any gaps now gives you time to arrange the right training.
We offer relevant electrical and renewables courses, including Level 3 NVQ Qualified Electrician, 18th Edition, Testing and Inspection, EV Charger Installation, Solar PV Installation and Maintenance, and Battery Storage and EESS.

Thinking about becoming a gas engineer but not sure how long the full journey actually takes?

The answer depends on where you are starting from. A complete beginner or career changer will usually need a different training route from someone who already has experience in plumbing, heating or another relevant trade.

Our latest blog breaks down the different routes into gas engineering, including the Managed Learning Programme, supervised workplace experience, ACS assessments and the steps towards Gas Safe registration. It also explains why there is no single guaranteed timescale, and what can affect how quickly you progress.

Whether you are starting from scratch, moving across from another trade or looking to understand the gas training pathway before committing, this guide will help you see what the journey really involves.
