Mantis Hacks

Mantis Hacks Mantis Hacks - My maker projects and other engineering builds that started with The Mantis Hexapod. The Mantis walking machine started as an idea back in 2007.

The Mantis Hexapod Walking Machine - Developed 2009 to present by Matt Denton ( Micromagic Systems Ltd )

With a 5 meter working envelope and weighing in at 1900Kg this is definitely the largest hexapod we have built so far! In 2009 we secured private funding to start the project and after three years of design, build and testing the Mantis made it's public début in the summer of 2012 at Bestival

IOW UK. The Mantis is a giant hydraulic hexapod robot powered from a 2.2 litre Turbo Diesel engine. The operator can be either on-board or remote via a WiFi link. Although this is the first version of the Mantis to be released, it is essentially MKII. MKI was finished and tested during the summer of 2011, however, there were several mechanical and hydraulic issues that needed to be resolved, including the removal of the fourth leg axis which is the most obvious difference between MKI and MKII.
