Project Spotlight | Heat Exchanger Precision Gantry Lift 🏗️

BIG LIFTING CHALLENGES. SMALL SPACES.

What happens when there's no room for a crane, barely any headroom and a heavy heat exchanger that needs lifting?

You engineer a solution to fit the space! 💪

Our latest project took place inside a severely restricted plant room, where a heat exchanger needed to be raised just enough to install a drip tray underneath.

With limited floor space and no crane access, our team assembled a heavy-duty lifting gantry using a steel beam, structural clamps, chain tackles and specialist lifting slings.

Project Spotlight | 160-Tonne Crane Multi-Unit HVAC Lift
Five units.

Five different lifting and positioning challenges.

For this HVAC installation, Riglift used a 160-tonne mobile crane to lift and install two industrial chillers, two pressure vessels and a large fan unit.

The chillers were moved into their final positions using skates and a load steerer, while the pressure vessels required a two-stage re-rigging operation to stand them upright.

The fan unit was carefully extracted from overhead ducting and lowered into position without damaging the surrounding structure.

A combination of crane operations, specialist rigging, lorry loader support and ground-level positioning brought the complete installation together.

Another project planned around the load, the site and the final position.

Project Spotlight | Industrial Chiller Installation

Another successful restricted-access installation completed by the Riglift team.

For this project, the main industrial chiller had to be lifted over the site perimeter fence using a lorry loader before being carefully moved into its final position using skates and jacks.

With access limited, accurate lift geometry, radius planning and ground protection were essential from the start.

The result: all chiller units safely positioned on their final plinths with no damage to the equipment or surrounding surfaces.

Not every lift needs to be a massive one.

Smaller pump installations still require careful planning, control and precision to make sure everything is positioned exactly where it needs to be.

Another successful multi-unit substation fit-out completed by the Riglift team.

This project involved the delivery and installation of a transformer, ring main unit (RMU), two LV boards and ancillary equipment into a confined substation environment.

Using sleepers and packing timbers to create a stable rolling route, the team moved each unit into position before using hydraulic jacks for accurate final placement onto the foundations.

Careful sequencing was key throughout the operation, ensuring each unit could be installed safely and efficiently without restricting access for the next.

Project Spotlight | Electrical Panel De-oiling

Oil-filled electrical equipment has to be handled carefully at end of life, with the oil removed and contained before the equipment can be safely separated and moved.

Working alongside the client’s engineers, the Riglift team managed the complete sequence — draining and capturing the dielectric oil using specialist de-oiling equipment, separating the panel sections and preparing them for controlled removal by lorry loader.

The panels were successfully de-oiled, separated and removed from site while maintaining environmental control throughout the operation.

Another example of how careful sequencing, the right equipment and experienced handling can make technically demanding plant removal safer and more efficient.
