Did you know that almost one in three people in the UK are living with deafness, hearing loss or tinnitus?

At Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation, we're continuously aiming to foster more inclusive - and accessible - environments for our colleagues, customers and wider communities.

This week, we partnered with our friends at Nottinghamshire Deaf Society to run some British Sign Language training sessions for our team.

These sessions combined deaf awareness and an introduction to deaf culture with practical BSL training, providing our participants with a deeper understanding of the barriers that people with hearing loss face every day and an insight into how we can make communication more inclusive.

Thanks to everyone who took part!

One week to go!

We're excited to be sponsoring and exhibiting at Flood & Coast 2026, which will be taking place this time next week at the Exhibition Centre at Liverpool Experience Campus.

This year's event is focused around 'Policy to practice: Achieving resilience together' and explores how the policy ambition can be turned into practical, effective delivery across rivers, catchments and coasts.

Coming along? Make sure to visit us at Stand G7!

Today, we're shining the spotlight on Paul O'Grady, our Operations Manager at Loughborough.

Paul joined our team in March 2025, with his role centred around ensuring that the site runs in the safest possible way to produce quality components for our customers to the schedule they require.

When asked what his day-to-day looks like, Paul says: "I know everybody says it, but no two days are the same. I can be taking visitors from Group around the site for a tour, or can be on the shop floor looking at projects to complete. Day-to-day, it's a case of managing any issues that crop up from the night shift (or previous shift), liaising with different departments to ensure smooth running, and working with my shift leaders to make sure everyone's doing what they should be, in the safest way possible.

"The best bit of my role has to be the variety, and the people. We make components here that vary in size, from 100mm to 3m diameters. The skill level that my teams have to make these components is something that should make everybody involved with Polypipe CGU very proud."

Paul's standout project so far? "A recent project in Leeds. This was a project made from 3m diameter pipe - the fittings made were huge! To see them being loaded onto a lorry and driving off was something to behold. We got lots of people out to see these before they left as they were so big, and they couldn't believe they were all being made by hand.

"Polypipe CGU is a great place to work. It's different everyday and there's always something to keep you on your toes. I'm looking forward to continuing my plastic pipe education - I can't believe it's only been a year!"

"Our drainage planning approach needs to evolve, and that begins with a mindset shift. We need to re-frame our thinking and adopt a ‘community-first’ approach, combining elements to amplify the benefits."

In the latest issue of Specification magazine, Jon Stewart, our Business Development Director - Water, explains why we need to re-frame our thinking when it comes to drainage solutions.

This week (11-17th May) is Mental Health Awareness Week.

The Mental Health Foundation's theme for this year's campaign is 'Action' because, although awareness is incredibly important, real change comes from action. It's split into three strands:
- Action for yourself
- Action for someone else
- Action for all of us

At Polypipe Civils & Green Urbanisation, our brilliant team of Mental Health First Aiders (now 28-strong!) play a key role in helping us foster mentally healthy, inclusive, safe spaces for our community.

This week, we want to take the opportunity to share a reminder that, in today's ever-changing and often unsettling climate, prioritising and looking after our mental health has never been more important. We encourage our teams, customers and partners to take action in whichever way resonates most, and remember that this might mean different things at different times.

Speak openly, ask for support, listen, look out for each other and know that it is okay not to be okay. 💚

This week marks the 26 years since the Tate Modern first opened to the public, so it's a timely opportunity for us to re-visit our involvement in the museum's 2016 extension.

Over 350 metres of our Ridgistorm-XL large diameter pipe was specified in 750mm and 900mm diameters for use as an air ventilation system under a new building (the Switch House) being added at the south of the existing gallery.
