About time for an update, basically the garden is done! But here's how we've got there...
So finished the wall and pulled earth back to it and started levelling the garden. In the end we raised one end by 20cm and dropped the other by 20cm. Much more level than before. Which is great, except it meant the drain cover is now 20cm underground!!
After much head scratching I came up with this solution you can see in the pics. Pretty much a box to hold the earth back and then a box within the box, filled with earth which can be removed to allow access. (I'm think it's quite cunning, and it works great).
Did a bit of cementing over where the old flowerbeds were and took a whole lot of rubble and rubbish to the tip!

Wall cemented in, I'm off to Tesco for a beer! 👍

The somewhat sporadic work on the wall is continuing, hoping to have it fully situated an cemented in today (fingers crossed).
So we have a design on the black board, the wall assembled and ready to be moved into place and an assembled step ready to be affixed to the wall.

The sleepers arrived today, mighty planks of wood that they are! They'll be affixed two high to form the new retaining wall. One length from each fence leaves a nice little gap for some steps in the middle. Then the earth will be pulled down towards them, levelling the garden. (He says, making it sound very easy!!!). Busy weekend ahead...

Lunch on day two (had a week and a half away with family and work). The wall is now a pile of stones, and quite a lot went to the tip. Revealing a nice little trench for the sleepers to go into.

End of day one, despite a few rain delays, the flower bed is well and truly gone. Although I found the house's soil pipe. That's what the big lump of concrete is stuck to, hence I've kept a wide berth. Bit of head scratching required on that front! Need to remove the concrete but not damage the pipe.

First step, remove flowerbed to make more space for table and chairs.
