Any building that has public visitors, not only requires emergency lighting for safe evacuation of the property in an emergency or power outage, but more importantly, it requires them to be working.

This is law 🚨

The emergency lighting system requires an annual 3 hour discharge test to make sure that the lights come on and that they last 3 hours 💡

This must be documented and accounted for as part of your health and safety regime 🏢✅

We often find that this is heavily neglected. There are many reasons for this, such as staff turn over, lack of knowledge of the law, poor health and safety regime or complete lack of understanding of the systems installed and why 📚🔧

Whoever is in charge of the premises must have policies in place to ensure there is clear a understanding of the law, and the operational maintenance requirement of the machines and their batteries 🔋⚡

We recently completed this job at an well known leisure centre brand

A staff member identified two central battery systems that were 30 years old and may have been out of action for 10 years or more 🪫

No recorded testing, maintenance or management process was in place for the machines 🔧

The buildings owners, management, and those with maintenance responsibilities would all be liable for any injuries or deaths that that occurred in the event that emergency lighting wasn’t operational in the case of a fire or other emergency.

Powerguard stepped in and designed two new bespoke central battery systems to fit existing cabling, allowing them to be installed within just 4 weeks
