1966..................Here, in 1966, a contract undertaken by P. Keenan on the B18 North of Toome, entailed job removal of hedges and establishing a gravel shoulder both carriageways as part of a widening scheme. On 1st March 1944, Patrick Keenan of Leitrim, Castledawson, registered as a Government road contractor and it is this local company who carried out the work. In background is William Kenyon's Diatomite Plant, known locally as the 'clay factory'. This was closed in 1967. The Keenan lorry here is a Bedford TK Tipper. Painting by David Briggs, 2013.
