A soccer team consisting entirely of transgender men has made its debut in a regional league in Spain, overcoming administrative challenges and prejudice to become the first all-trans squad to achieve federated status in Europe.

The team, named Fenix FC after the mythical bird symbolizing rebirth, played some friendlies and seven-a-side games last season but now competes in the fifth tier in the northwestern region of Catalonia after being incorporated into a local club in the Barcelona suburb of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

I am honoured to have been chosen for the second year running to be a UN Women CSW68 delegate.

What does this mean?
It means that I and a number of other volunteer delegates will attend the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in March 2024. We will attend two weeks of meetings, discussions and debates focused this year on the theme: "Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective"
We will also review last years agreed conclusions: "Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls"

Established in 1946, The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
It consists of two weeks of meetings of high-level government ministers, representatives from NGOs and UN delegates, as well as hundreds of events set up by grassroots organisations and activists to discuss and make progress on specific issues, from child marriage to equal pay.

Its not too late to get involved:

All we ask is that you commit to a minimum of 3-4 hours over the month of March, to be briefed and attend your selection of events – this is so that you find this an educational and fulfilling experience.

The delegation is open to anyone, of any gender, all you need is a passion for human rights, gender equality, activism and/or politics!

The maximum time commitment is...as much as you like! There are typically approximately 800 events over the two weeks, which will be on a rolling 24-hour schedule.

All delegates will be asked to provide brief reflections on the events they have attended, so that UNWomen can document the joint learnings of the full delegation, and work to make the UN increasingly accessible to all.

Change parental leave and pay to give employed fathers/second parents two weeks' paternity leave, plus four weeks' non-transferable parental leave, paid at 90%, to be taken in the baby's first year. Introduce a Paternity Allowance with similar benefits for other fathers/second parents.
