Wow, what a scorcher of a week it’s been! We hope everyone has been keeping hydrated. ☀️💧

Since our last update, the building has really started to take shape.

A big thank you to Ace Welding for turning our posts around so quickly. Getting these fabricated promptly allowed us to keep moving, as they are built into the inner blockwork skin and will support the steelwork for the roof and lintel.

We managed to get the brickwork up to damp course level and install the block-and-beam floor. Thankfully, access to the site was good because those beams are incredibly heavy, along with the packs of concrete blocks that followed. Before long, we had a floor in place, giving the customer a real sense of the room’s size and layout.

Once everything had been signed off by Building Control, we cracked on with the brickwork and blockwork. It’s always a great feeling seeing a client’s excitement as their project starts to come to life in front of them.

Just a few more courses to go and we’ll be at lintel height. We’re hoping our steel beams will be back from the galvanisers next week, fingers crossed! 🤞

As always, a huge thank you to our suppliers for keeping us going. We couldn’t do what we do without your continued support.

Wow, what a stunning week of weather ☀️
Always makes life easier when you’ve got a machine on site and it’s dry there’s nothing worse than wet clay sticking to absolutely everything when it’s raining.

Drainage is in, steels have been ordered, and the blocks and bricks have arrived. It’s nice when you’re finally at the stage of putting things back together.

Big thank you to Nick from Comber for the swift grab service see you next week for the last one 👏

Have a great Bank Holiday weekend from all at the SHCB team.

Spring is here, the sun’s out, and we’re kicking off a brand new project ☀️

First up: clearing the site ready for footings and digging a new soakaway. After breaking through what felt like endless layers of old patio and concrete, we finally got the levels down and ready to dig.

It’s always surprising how quickly a mountain of muck builds up! Big thanks to Nick for jumping in and taking away the first load so we could get access back on site 👊

With the new soakaway dug and piped up ready to connect, it was time to move on to the footings. Spec for this job was a 1.2m dig due to nearby trees, but once they were in and signed off by building control, it was the calm before the storm while we waited for concrete.

And as always, Coppard Concrete delivered top service from the drivers and team every time. Couldn’t ask for better 💪

Another job ticked off as the scaffolding came down today 👏

What started as a simple job to replace the blown roof tiles quickly turned into a much bigger project. We uncovered a lot of rotten timber, and the newer part of the roof came with its own challenges from humps and dips to noticeable differences across both sides.

We’ve strengthened the dormers, installed new cladding, and fitted brand new fascias and soffits all the way around, as the originals were unfortunately beyond saving.

Big thanks to all our suppliers and tradesmen who helped us get another project over the line 💪

This week’s tile replacement update…

After stripping the roof, we uncovered several issues, including rotten rafter feet caused by years of water ingress. The biggest challenge has been the 1980s extension, where uneven rafters had caused noticeable humps and dips, a big contrast to the original 100 year-old roof, which was built to a very high standard.

While the roof was open, we treated the structure for woodworm and added insulation to the skeilings and loft space to help reduce heating costs. Unfortunately, the original barge boards, fascia, and soffit couldn’t be saved, so these have now been replaced.

Today we started reinstalling the felt and battens , tiling is next! Big thanks to Brian Gow Roofing Supplies for the fast delivery as always.

Final update coming soon stay tuned.

We have had a busy start to the year finishing previous projects from last year.

Just starting another big project for a client in Staplehurst. Unfortunately this roof is in need of repair. The old tiles have started to blow in the frost and needed to be replaced. When we began stripping the roof we could see the water had been getting in and the squirrels have chewed plenty of holes!

We will keep you posted with our progress over the next few weeks.

One last update of the year. A really big thank you to ace welding for getting this handrail to us so we can finish this previous project for this customer. Unfortunately it stuck at the powder coaters and was told it was unlikely to get it before the new year however we think we must of been good this year as it felt like Christmas had come early.
We got a few laughs from people walking past in our elf jumpers as we worked all you could hear is the bells jingling.

We would love to thank all our suppliers and contractors again this year because without you we couldn’t do what we do.

We look forward to seeing you all in the new year from us we wish you a very merry Christmas.

The weather has definitely turned this morning
We have been and done our annual checks over the roof at Edenbridge church. Always makes us smile such a wonderful building to work at.
Unfortunately this year the squirrels have been chewing the lead this may have to be looked at soon to keep the water out.

We have been busy this week updating a bathroom for a client in Crowborough which is waiting to be plastered Monday stay tuned for before and after photos next week.
Starting to make this kitchen feel like a room as well. It’s amazing what plaster and a lick of paint can do very much looking forward to getting the kitchen on order once boiler is relocated and design can be finalised.
