It’s a tough world down there.

We went to talk tech and see the latest machines. The Asahi was an unexpected bonus… or three!

This week we attended the Citizen Machinery UK Open Day, and it’s fair to say there was a good mix of engineering, industry peers, old friends and a few beers along the way.

A particularly special moment was John presenting Akabe San with a gift of Japanese wh**ky, thanking him for his outstanding support over the years.

Then came the socialising.

Good company, plenty of laughs, a good few attempts at pulling the perfect pint and perhaps one or two more Asahis than originally planned.

Let’s just say the following morning was a little less productive! (swipe to the last slide for proof 🥴).

Seriously though, a huge thank you to John Hart and everyone at Citizen Machinery UK for the fantastic hospitality.

The best machines, great people and friendships that extend well beyond precision engineering.

Sometimes, we’re the subcontractor’s subcontractor.

Not every component we manufacture comes directly from an end customer.

This batch of 2,000 mild steel camera mount components came to us from another subcontract engineering company. They had the order, but needed the right machine to get it done.

That’s where C&M came in.

Machined on our Citizen L32, it’s a good example of another side of subcontract manufacturing.

A good eye and a steady hand.

5,000 micron-precision components to count, and every one needs the same concentration and care.

Manufacturing isn’t all about high-tech CNC machines. Behind the technology, there are still plenty of jobs that rely on patience, focus, dexterity and a human touch.

And sometimes that means sitting down with a pair of tweezers and getting on with it.

This part has a lot going on.

Machined from Nickel Aluminium Bronze for a long-standing customer, this is exactly where having the right machining capability and years of CNC experience really matters.

It’s also about knowing how to use that capability to its full potential. Complex machining, including a machined knurl and internal chamfer, makes full use of the capabilities of our Miyano ANX42SYY.

With Nickel Aluminium Bronze chosen for its strength and corrosion resistance, this is complex machining for a hostile working environment.

We are now a Platinum Corporate Member of Essex Wildlife Trust.

And we’re really proud to be supporting the work they do to protect wildlife and wild places across Essex.

Our factory sits in Maldon, with the Blackwater Estuary, salt marshes and Essex countryside right on our doorstep. This surrounding area is home to an incredible variety of wildlife.

We see wildlife around the factory and have even had oystercatchers nesting on our roof.

So becoming a Platinum Corporate Member of Essex Wildlife Trust just felt like a very natural fit.

For C&M, it’s about doing business responsibly and recognising that we also have a big part to play to keep the wildlife in our area safe.

We’re looking forward to working with the Essex Wildlife Trust.

Since John Cable saw his first machine at MACH 2004, he's never looked back and has consistently relied on our technology to improve his manufacturing efficiency.

“I saw a Citizen M12 sliding-head lathe on the stand and bought it. That machine changed everything.”

One machine has now turned into a fleet of 13 operating on his shop floor for Onehitcnc, including an M16, two M32-Vs, two L32-XIIs, two A32-VIIs, an L12-VIII, an L12-X, an L20-VII, an ANX42SYY, and two BNE65MYYs.

What does one of many components in a £2M customer contract look like?

In this case, it starts with 6.3mm high-grade oxygen-free, high-conductivity copper and ends at just 3.5mm in a single cut. It’s an electronics filament rod connector.

We manufacture this on our Citizen L12 with LFV.

Better swarf control means a much more efficient process and less material waste for this expensive material.

There are 750 in this run, but this is just one of several components we manufacture for this customer as part of an ongoing £2M contract.
