Salford Astronomical Society

Salford Astronomical Society We welcome everyone to the Observatory who has an interest in astronomy. We are a varied group of individuals who all share the same passion for Astronomy.

Salford Astronomical Society is based at Chaseley Field Observatory which houses an impressive 18.5'' Newtonian Reflector telescope gifted to the society in 1971 by Jodrell Bank. There are a number of different interests in the group from Observing, Astrophotography and Space Flight. Our observatory houses an 18.5 inch Goto Newtonian Reflector, relocated from Jodrell Bank over 45 years ago, where

it was used to do lots of scientific research. The Society works in partnership with its affiliates NASA's Jet Propulsion Labourites, Kids In Space and local educational services in it outreach and development of its STEM Innovation Lab
Throughout the winter months, as well as meetings and observing session we host Lectures from various professional in the field. New members always welcome and membership is available via our website www.salfordastro.org.uk. The Society works on a non for profit basis so donations to the ongoing up keep are welcome and appreciated via our webpage or Paypal [email protected] Thank you!

🌟 Calling all young space explorers! 🌟

We’re thinking about starting Saturday morning sessions at the Observatory for younger children and families — a chance to discover the Moon, planets, stars, telescopes, and the wonders of space in a fun and relaxed environment. 🔭✨

These sessions could include:
🌙 Safe solar observing
🪐 Looking through telescopes
🚀 Space activities and talks
🌌 Learning about the night sky
👨‍👩‍👧 Family-friendly astronomy fun

We’d love to know if this is something families would be interested in attending!

If you’d like to see children’s astronomy mornings at the Observatory, please comment below or send us a message. Feel free to share this post with anyone who has young, budding astronomers! ⭐
