Congratulations to Ben on successfully completing his Level 2 Groundworker Apprenticeship!

🛫 Ben began his apprenticeship journey with Bethell two years ago and is now supporting the delivery of landside and airside infrastructure upgrades at Manchester Airport.

Having achieved his qualification, he will continue developing his skills, gaining additional machine tickets, and building valuable hands-on groundworks experience on-site.

👋 As we celebrate Ben's success, we're also delighted to welcome our 2026 cohort of apprentices to Bethell.

We will support them throughout their apprenticeship journey and look forward to seeing them develop their skills, gain experience, and progress their careers in the years ahead.

👋 One last look at our crawler crane in Burneside before it heads home!

Our 60-tonne telescopic crawler crane is now being derigged and prepared for its 69-mile journey from the Lake District back to our Kearsley yard facility.

🚰 The crane played a key role in the construction of a new 9-metre diameter shaft for a pumping station in Burneside.

Once complete, the pumping station will increase network storage capacity and help reduce the occurrence of localised flooding within the village and is part of United Utilities’ Big North West Upgrade, a £900 million investment in the county, making Cumbria stronger, greener and healthier.

⭐ Congratulations to Harris on passing your apprenticeship!

HGV Driver Harris has completed his Level 2 apprenticeship, demonstrating his ability to safely transport and deliver goods and materials.

🚛 He also passed his Class 2 license at the very young age of 21, an impressive achievement for someone at the start of their career!

Harris has been praised by his department for his willingness to work hard and can-do attitude, who described him as a very refreshing addition to the team.

🔎 We are looking for apprentice HGV drivers like Harris who are looking to take the first step into a unique but rewarding career in the civil engineering industry.

🛫 Celebrating a major milestone at Manchester Airport!

A ribbon-cutting ceremony officially marked the opening of a decontamination unit at the North Side Fire Station.

👷 Bethell designed and built 12 reinforced concrete foundation bases for the new unit.

We also installed the foul drainage connection to the unit and the water & electric supply.

👍 Bethell constructed a new pathway and ramp to the unit, and installed handrails, cycle shelter, stands, and road markings.

The package of works was delivered by our airport operational team in 6 weeks.

🛡️ Delivering the infrastructure protecting homes and communities from the impacts of historical mining!

On behalf of the Mining Remediation Authority, Bethell have been delivering works to permanently cap off a mine shaft at Camberwell Drive, Ashton-under-Lyne.

🚧 Works reached the latest milestone with the completion of a massive 16m x 16m x 5.2m excavation - requiring around 256 truckloads of muck to be transported away!

Two concrete piers were removed using wire cutting methods, minimising noise on site compared to alternative removal methods and reducing the impact on the residents nearby.

👷 We are now pouring reinforced blinding concrete to create a base for our teams to start fixing steel, ready for the installation of the permanent capping slab.

We'd like to thank the local community for their continued patience throughout these works, as we deliver the permanent solution the residents wanted.
