The biggest myths around changing domestic energy suppliers are that switching providers will cause issues such as power outages, meter malfunctions, billing inaccuracies and also that staying loyal to a provider means you will be better looked after and be given the best rates.

Of course, there are the occasional issues that do arise with providers and we may probably know a family member or friend who has been through some quite negative experience - but any number of issues can arise at any time with services irrespective of changing suppliers or not.

I should KNOW,… as I myself have been through some problematic situations personally, but I have also helped many others navigate some ‘stormy waters’ when dealing with not just Energy Suppliers, but also Broadband and mobile phone services.

In reality, these days, switching to a different provider is often simple & seamless, requires little or no technical changes, and new customers usually receive better discounts in the way of introductory offers and incentives.

In many cases, people also don’t realise they can switch to whichever supplier they prefer,… particularly when moving into a new property currently being supplied by another company. It is also a myth that you HAVE to take your current supplier services with you at your new property - this is most definitely not true. In fact, it is probably one of the better times to make an actual switch as so much is already changing anyway, what better than to wipe the slate and see what what fresh start can be made with various utility providers.

Th truth is, consumers find the market confusing, complex and time-consuming leading them to avoid switching & sticking to what they know - more than 25% of customers have not switched suppliers in the last 3 years - that’s 12.7m households!!

Over half of households trust a personal recommendation from someone they know & nearly a third would rather speak to someone to make saving simple rather than rely on a completely automated or on-line process.

Is saving money and reducing unnecessary costs actually a skill?
I was recently called a ‘skinflint’ :- someone who is overly tight with their cash to the point of making life harder for themselves (and others) just to avoid spending!

This was because I was taking a shower at the Sports Centre after playing Badminton with friends. And when one friend asked why I don’t just shower at home, my
reply was ‘why use MY hot water at home when I can take my shower here?’
(Actually, I also don’t like to get into my car after being all hot & sweaty, I’d rather be clean & fresh, but i didn’t explain this as an addendum).

So yes, I was called a ‘skinflint’ but I believe its not about being stingy; it's about being smart. After all, if shower facilities are provided as part of the cost, then why not avail yourself of them? It does not make me a cheapo, its about being improving efficiency, saving resources, and being mindful of costs (for the good of everyone).

In my time as an Environmental Adviser to Businesses, I taught the 4 ‘R’s. Hats ‘Reduce, re-use, Recycle - in THAT order.

In the first instance, reducing consumption & waste directly impacts on bottom line, FACT.
To re=use takes little effort, i.e. Utilising something for a different purpose that would otherwise be thrown away. And lastly, recycling means putting materials through a given ‘process’ - which is means using more energy, resources and man-power which is why it is last in the waste management hierarchy.

At the end of the day, it’s about balance. You don’t have to be wasteful to enjoy life. And you don’t have to be “cheap” to be smart about how you spend your time and money.

Thats where I see myself now in Partnership with Utility warehouse.
Making life easier and cheaper for my customers is a given, but I also provide guidance, knowledge and assistance to my personally introduced customers on an on-going basis, completely free of charge.

Utility Warehouse provides the best value home services, (gas & electricity, broadband, mobiles, insurance etc..) all on one simple, clear to understand monthly bill which is also delivered in digital format for most people - thus saving paper and cost in the process.

Give me a shout if you’d like to chat or if you know of anyone I can help.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a digital version of the traditional physical SIM card. It’s like a virtual SIM that lives in your device. And it can be downloaded and installed straight onto a phone for near-instant connection.

No more waiting for a tiny plastic card to come in the post, or trying to find that little metal pin to open up your phone, or dropping the fiddly SIM tray.

Key advantages include:
* Seamless Switching: Easily switch between different network providers and plans through your phone's settings, without the hassle of physically swapping tiny cards

* Dual SIM Functionality: Most compatible devices allow you to use an eSIM alongside a physical SIM (or multiple eSIM profiles), enabling you to have two active phone numbers on a single device—ideal for separating personal and business use

* International Travel: eSIMs are particularly beneficial for travelers, allowing you to activate a local data plan in your destination country to avoid expensive international roaming charges. You can have the local plan for data while keeping your home number active for calls/texts

* Multiple Profiles: You can store multiple eSIM profiles on one device and switch between them as needed, which is helpful if you travel to the same locations frequently

* Theft Deterrent: An eSIM is embedded in your device and cannot be physically removed by a thief, making the phone easier to track and harder to use without authorization

* Remote Management: In the event of a lost or stolen device, the eSIM can be disabled remotely, protecting your data and preventing unauthorized access

* Space-Saving Design: The elimination of a physical SIM card slot and tray frees up internal space, which can be used for other components like a larger battery or better camera technology

* Eco-Friendly: Digital SIMs reduce plastic waste and the environmental impact of packaging and shipping physical cards

Utility Warehouse finds parents feeling the pinch during school break

A study of 1,000 parents of children aged 5-14 found that parents are expected to pay out an extra £611 on average over the six-week Summer break, on top of their usual expenses.

The concern to cover the costs means that 88% of parents who were surveyed admit that they are looking for ways to help them save on spending this summer. The extra costs are spread across a variety of different necessities for the summer with mums and dads paying up to £85 for clubs and camps, up to £199 for day trips and astonishingly an extra £401 for food and snacks.
Parents are already planning on ways they could claw back these additional outgoings. The most popular ways include taking packed lunches on days out (42%), buying snacks in bulk (38%), and over a third (35%) are actively utilising cashback or reward deals on what they spend.

Research commissioned by Utility Warehouse also found 40% of those who don’t already use cashback schemes thought that it would be very useful to get cashback or rewards on shopping to help during the school holidays. Which is why UW is highlighting their unique Cashback Card, which which pays out more than £1m pounds per month to Utility Warehouse customers.

What is energy efficiency?

Energy efficiency is about using less energy to perform the same tasks – whether it is heating a home, lighting a street, running industrial processes or transporting electricity across the grids. It helps maximise the output while minimising the resources used to achieve it. Energy efficiency applies everywhere: in homes, shops, office buildings, schools, hospitals, factories, transport, etc.

Energy efficiency at home:
Energy efficiency is a no-brainer: it’s good for our wallets, for the climate and it makes our homes more comfortable!
Every step and action counts. Examples include
switching to LED lighting
using energy-efficient appliances like refrigerators, washing machines, dishwashers or TVs
renovating your home to improve insulation or upgrading your heating and cooling systems
Choosing energy efficient products can lead to average savings of up to £290 per year on household energy bills.
Replacing gas boilers with heat pumps can cut household energy use for space heating by a factor of 3 to 5.
Energy efficiency pays off and help us to keep our bills under control - invest £1 in energy efficiency at home, get £12 back.

Claiming back Credit from Energy Bills/Accounts

Millions of households may be able to claim credit balances from their energy suppliers - and have no idea about it.

I am alerting people of the possible cash boost available, and now is the best time to check what is available.

People who pay for their gas and electricity via direct debit regularly build up credit on their accounts. But they could claim some of this back.

Energy companies keep monthly payments at a set level for a certain time period, usually one year.

This means customers build up credit during the warmer months when they use less energy. This credit then helps to cover higher costs in winter when usage ramps up again. But in many cases, households build up more credit than they will ever need.

It's a good idea to keep some credit on your account to help with bills in the colder months, but if there is hundreds of pounds in Credit, people may want to ask for some back. Customers are within their rights to do this.

I reviewed one of my personal Utility Warehouse Customers accounts on their Bill and helped them get a rebate of built up Credit amounting to just over £1,200. We then went on to reduce her monthly Budget Plan payments to around £100 lower per month!

Many customers with various Suppliers don’t realise they’re effectively lending money to their energy supplier. Money which they could benefit from!

If you’ve built up a significant credit balance and your usage has dropped, now is a good time to take back control of your payments. If you’ve been in credit for more than a month and your meter readings are up to date, you are well within your rights to request a refund.

This is your money, and with energy prices remaining elevated, it’s worth checking whether your direct debit is set too high.

If you need assistance with claiming back credit balances on your bills no matter which supplier you are with, just get in touch.
