The PMT FUTURE CMM performs a coaxiality inspection on a washing machine bearing support housing, capturing the measurement data required to verify the alignment of critical features against specification. This helps identify any deviations before the component progresses through production, while providing the data required for inspection reporting.

What do you do when a replacement part for a rare 30 year old car is no longer available?

3D scan it and recreate it.

Our customer Ray wanted to keep his Suzuki X90 as original as possible, but after discovering one of the wheel hubs was missing, finding a replacement proved difficult. Around 1,500 X90s are thought to have originally been brought to the UK, with an estimated 50 still on the road today.

With replacement hubs no longer available, it was looking like the only option would be to replace all four original alloy wheels at a significant cost, all because one hub was missing.

Instead, Ray came to Manchester Metrology to see if 3D scanning and 3D printing could provide another option.

Using our Scanology SIMSCAN S Gen2, Sam, our 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineer, scanned one of the existing hubs and produced four new ones using our 3D printer. The quality of the scan data meant minimal clean up and very little optimisation was needed before the file was ready to print.

The result? Four new hubs and the original alloy wheels could stay on the car.

The World Cup might be over for another four years, but we couldn’t put our replica away without giving it one final scan.

Using the 3devok MT Gen2 wirelessly, we captured the colour and fine detail of our 3D printed World Cup trophy without the need for markers.
