You’ve had a full day on the tools, your body’s had enough and you’re just trying to get home…

Then you end up behind someone at a green light, head down, scrolling on their phone 😡😂

Come on mate, the lights have changed!

And before anyone asks — I’m not actually sat in a van. This picture’s AI-generated… but that feeling is very real 😂

Airbags are brilliant for holding a door in place when there are no internal reveals to work with 👌

Quick, simple and handy when you need that extra bit of support while you’re getting everything lined up.

What do you use in that situation, guys? Always good to hear how other fitters tackle it 👇

Struggling to find a decent recip blade for cutting steel?

We’ve been using these and they’ve been really good — even on 10 mm flat steel.

Always handy finding something that makes the awkward jobs a bit easier. What blades are you lot using?

Just a quick word.

We share our work, advice and knowledge to help other fitters, especially the younger ones coming into the trade. That’s the whole point.

Everyone’s welcome to have a different opinion and have a respectful discussion. But if you’re just here to have a dig or cause trouble from behind a screen, you’ll be blocked straight away.

I can’t make it much clearer than that. We’re here to help and share what we’ve learned. 👍🏻

“Our new windows have condensation…”

A message that can worry people after having new windows fitted — but if it’s on the outside pane, it’s normally a good sign.

On colder mornings, the outer pane can get cold enough for moisture in the air to settle on it. That happens because the glazing is keeping the warmth inside the home, rather than letting it escape through the glass.

It will usually clear as the day warms up.

Condensation on the room side is a separate issue, usually linked to humidity and ventilation. Moisture between the panes is different again and should be checked.

Hopefully this puts a few minds at rest 👌

When we’re working around a customer’s sink, we cover it with a 4 mm protective rubber mat to help keep it safe from tools and debris.

What do you use to protect customers’ sinks on the job? Is there something you swear by?

Our preferred way of cutting cill horns.

We know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea, and there are plenty of ways to finish a cill — but this is the method we use when the job calls for it.

We’ve shown the full process here rather than just the finished result, as we’re actively trying to pass on the little bits of trade knowledge that help younger fitters find their feet.

If you’re newer to the trade and want a group where people share tips, experience and advice without the usual nonsense, come and join us over at Fitters Advice Bureau (FAB) 👊

We’ve settled on this method because it gives a neater finish and reduces visible sealant, which we personally try to keep to a minimum where possible.

Clear LMN behind the face trim, then Stelmax above.

There are a few different ways to approach it, so how does everyone else do theirs? 👇

The real deal of window fitting 😂

It’s not all standing back admiring a nice new window. Sometimes it’s squeezing your knackered body into a space it really doesn’t want to go, twisting and contorting just to get the job done.

At 6’1” and 15½ stone, I’m clearly not built for some of these gaps 🤣

The glamorous side of the trade they don’t show you!
