Did you know? Swink paints are pretty versatile - not just for paper.

I’ve had people use them on wood, glass, fabric, stones, even a sofa…they seem to work well across a range of surfaces.

They’ve got a good level of pigment too, so you still get solid colour and coverage. Here I’m using them on a canvas bag. Living in North Wales, a puffin felt like a suitable choice.

Swink paints take a different route to most artist paints.

They use a binder derived from seaweed. Yes; seaweed. A naturally occurring, renewable material that forms strong films, reducing the need for synthetic components.

The result is a low VOC paint, more suitable for indoor use without the strong fumes often associated with traditional paints.

Same purpose, just approached in a more planet-friendly way.

Not every painting starts with a blank canvas…sometimes it’s nice to have a bit of a head start. I thought I’d try one of those coloring in pages using the Swink paints. (Yes, that’s a picture of myself I’m painting; I am a masterpiece after all.) It’s quite relaxing when you don’t have to think too hard about what you’re creating. Just pick up a brush and get stuck in.

I always say these paints are one of my favourite things we do at CaplinTec, and I mean it. I use them in my spare time, and my son’s always pinching them too.

Simple, easy, and a good way to switch off for a bit. Anyone else enjoy a bit of painting without the pressure of being “creative”?

We had a lovely visit to in Denbigh, who very kindly let me moider them on camera while I dropped off a few CaplinTec products. I really just wanted to shine a bit of a spotlight on the brilliant work they’re doing.

It’s a fantastic eco refill shop supporting local makers, helping reduce plastic waste, and doing some genuinely lovely community-focused things with groups and activities that bring people together.

If you’re local, do pop in and have a look, and give them a follow while you’re at it!

For those of you who’ve joined us recently, hi! I’m Kev. This is me on a North Wales beach holding seaweed. As you do.

Most people see soggy brown stuff, but I see potential, polymers, pigments, possibility. (And occasionally a strange look from passing dog walkers.)

CaplinTec started because I wanted to make natural products that work without relying on harsh synthetics or anything that can harm the environment. Seaweed is one of my favourite natural resources and I’ll usually put it in any formulation I can because it’s just so versatile.

This is the bit people don’t usually see, the packing, the making sure everything is exactly where it should be (and ideally not leaking).

Moorfield first got in touch with me out of the blue, and I didn’t quite realise how important that phone call would be. Since then, Dean, David, Steve and the lads have helped CaplinTec grow in the right way, not just bigger, but better.

They’ve got the means, the know-how, and most importantly the patience. Which is useful, because I do ask a lot of questions.

Genuinely very grateful to be working with them. Even if they do get me to do manual labour when I go there.

So when I encouraged you all to use Swink paints however you want…this wasn’t quite what I had in mind…

But, I absolutely love it.

Watching Georgina follow her creative voice and turn a sofa into a full-blown piece of art is genuinely brilliant. Bold, beautiful - somehow it just works. Seeing our seaweed-based, naturally formulated paints used on materials like this never gets old, especially when they’re pushed in ways I’d never think to try myself.

Huge credit to for trusting the idea and running with it. This is exactly why I love seeing what people do with these paints once they leave my hands.
