Cold water storage tanks should be inspected and cleaned every year. It's the kind of job that can quietly slip down the list, but it's worth keeping on top of.

Sediment collects at the bottom over time, and that's exactly the kind of environment where bacteria can take hold. A tank that looks fine on the outside isn't always fine on the inside.

We do tank cleans for all sorts of commercial premises across Lancashire and Cumbria, and issue a certificate when the job's done so there's a record for compliance. If yours is overdue, give us a call on 01524 66512.

Between the phone, the emails and the contact forms, we hear from a real mix of people every week. Private water supply issues, pool servicing, Legionella queries, tank cleans. No two days are quite the same.

If you've got a water-related question and you're not sure where to start, just give us a ring. Natasha's on the other end of the phone and will point you in the right direction.

It might not feel much like summer at the moment, but if you're running a pool or spa, the busy season isn't far off.

Getting a service done now, while things are quieter, is a lot easier than dealing with a problem once the season's in full swing. Chemical balance, dosing equipment, water quality testing — it's all worth checking over before demand picks up.

New UV system and filter installed at a farmhouse near Sedbergh last week. The property had no water treatment at all previously, so this is the first time the supply has had any protection against bacteria and other contaminants.

It's a common situation with older rural properties on private supplies. If you're not sure what's on your property, or whether it's still working properly, it's worth getting it checked. Give us a call on 01524 66512 and we can talk through your options.

It might not feel like it this week, but water supply is becoming a bigger issue for UK businesses.

A supply disruption earlier this year in Tunbridge Wells cost local hospitality businesses an estimated £8 million. With national forecasts pointing to increasing pressure on water supply over the coming decades, it's worth thinking about how your business uses water now, not when there's a problem.

A water audit from Aqua looks at where your water is going, identifies any waste or leaks, and gives you a clear picture of where you could be saving money. One of our clients saved over £8,000 a year after a single audit.

We had an enquiry recently from someone with a borehole pump: the light was on, but the pressure vessel had dropped from its usual 3 bar down to below 1, and the outside tap was only delivering water sporadically.

That kind of combination usually means a waterlogged pressure vessel or a pump that's struggling. It needs a proper look rather than leaving it running as-is.

If you're on a private supply and something feels off, low pressure, intermittent flow, the pump running constantly, it's worth a call. We cover private water supplies across Lancashire and Cumbria. Give us a ring on 01524 66512.

Chris, one of our engineers, gets asked this one fairly regularly. So here's a straightforward answer.

Questions we get asked: how often should we test for Legionella?

It's a common one, and the honest answer is: it depends.

For most commercial premises, routine monitoring (temperature checks, outlet flushing) should be ongoing. Legionella water sampling is usually every three to six months for higher-risk systems, though it varies depending on your setup.

The frequency should be set out in your written scheme of control, which comes from your risk assessment. If you haven't had one done recently, that's the starting point.

Questions we get asked: do we have to test for Legionella by law?

Short answer - not always. UK law requires you to assess and manage the risk. Testing is one tool for doing that, not a blanket requirement for every building.

Your risk assessment should determine whether sampling is needed and how often. Healthcare settings and buildings with vulnerable occupants usually need regular sampling. A well-controlled office on mains water might not.

What you do need: a current risk assessment, a written scheme of control, and records showing it's being followed.

Isaac was out at a caravan park near Carnforth this week for an annual tank clean.

You can see the sediment build-up in the first photo - that's what accumulates in a cold water storage tank over twelve months. The second photo shows the tank part-way through cleaning.

For sites on a private water supply, annual tank cleaning isn't optional - it's part of keeping the system safe and the water drinkable. Sediment like this is exactly the kind of environment bacteria thrive in.

If you're responsible for a private supply and aren't sure when your tank was last cleaned, give us a call - 01524 66512
