Chris was out in Carnforth last week fitting a new pool cover after the old one had perished.

It's an easy thing to overlook, but a cover that's past its best means more heat loss, more evaporation and more chemicals needed to keep the water right. Worth a check if yours has been on a while.

Give us a call if you need yours looking at.

Ever seen inside an old water tank mid-clean? Here's one we've recently worked on.

The staining you can see builds up over years, mineral deposits and corrosion on the tank walls, and it's easy for this kind of thing to go unnoticed if a tank isn't checked regularly.

Regular inspection and cleaning keeps it under control before it becomes a bigger problem. If yours is overdue a check, give us a call on 01524 66512.

Summer puts private water supplies under more pressure than most people realise.

Holiday lets and rural properties see higher occupancy and heavier water use through the season, right when boreholes, springs and storage tanks are already working harder. It's often when weaknesses in a system, whether that's pressure, filtration or water quality, become obvious.

We've carried out private water supply installations and upgrades across the Lake District and wider North West, including UV disinfection systems for holiday let properties.

If you manage a property on a private supply, get in touch before the next booking rush.

Questions we get asked: what's the difference between a Legionella risk assessment and water testing?

They often get mixed up, but they're not the same. A risk assessment is the bigger picture, looking at your whole water system and what's needed to control the risks. Water testing is more specific, it's how you check those controls are actually doing their job, usually by sampling water from tanks or outlets.

By law you need a risk assessment. How often you need testing after that depends on what the assessment finds.

If you're not sure which one applies to you, give us a call on 01524 66512.

With the August bank holiday coming up, pools and spas are about to see some of their busiest days of the year.

More people in the water means chemical balance can shift quicker than usual, so it's worth checking pH and chlorine levels a bit more often over the next couple of weeks. Filters take more strain too with higher footfall.

A quick check now can save a headache later. If you'd like us to take a look before the bank holiday rush, give us a call on 01524 66512.

Before and after from a tank clean Isaac did near Preston last week.

Believe it or not, this tank stores drinking water. The before shot shows some rust staining, which is pretty normal for a tank of this age but still worth sorting on a regular basis.

Once drained, cleaned and disinfected, it's back looking clean and ready for another year.

Annual tank cleans are one of those jobs that's easy to forget about until something goes wrong. If yours is overdue, give us a call on 01524 66512.

Questions we get asked: why does pool water need balancing, not just chlorinating?

A lot of people assume chlorine does all the work, but it needs the right conditions to actually be effective. If the pH's too high or too low, chlorine struggles to kill bacteria properly, no matter how much you add.

Balanced water matters for the pool too, not just the chemistry. Get the pH wrong for long enough and it'll corrode fittings, damage the liner and leave swimmers with sore eyes and skin.

So really, balancing isn't a separate job to chlorinating, it's what makes the chlorine work in the first place.

Questions we get asked: what's a dead leg, and why does it matter?

It's basically a bit of pipework that water doesn't flow through regularly. Maybe there's a shower room that's rarely used, or an old tap left over from a refurb. The water just sits there, and that's exactly the kind of stagnant spot where Legionella bacteria can build up.

We come across these more often than you'd think, especially in older buildings or ones that have been altered over the years. A proper risk assessment should pick them up, but if you manage a building and you're not sure, it's always worth asking the question.

Give us a call on 01524 66512 if you'd like us to take a look.

When does a water system actually need chlorinating? Not just for brand new installations, it also comes up after a positive test result, if a system's been sitting unused, or if a risk assessment picks up an issue. We carry it out to British Standards and give you a certificate afterwards, so you've got the paperwork if anyone asks.

If your pool or spa's had a lot more use lately, it's worth keeping a closer eye on the water. More bathers means pH and chlorine can shift quicker than normal, and that's when problems creep in. A quick test catches it early.

If you'd like us to take a look at yours, give us a call on 01524 66512.
