This project brings together two areas of expertise for IDH: residential construction and commercial development.
We’re extending a traditional country home to create a contemporary events venue, carefully balancing the character and heritage of the existing property with the requirements of a modern commercial space.
The result will be a venue designed for weddings, private events and memorable occasions, with the original home forming an important part of its identity.
A key focus of the design is the relationship between the building and its surroundings. Carefully considered openings and the new extension create a strong indoor-outdoor connection, allowing the landscape to become part of the experience.
It’s an exciting example of how an existing residential property can be thoughtfully adapted to serve a completely new purpose.
From private homes to commercial spaces, the principles remain the same: quality craftsmanship, considered design and a focus on how people will experience and use the space.

This project sees us carrying out a full renovation of an Edinburgh New Town basement flat, alongside a single-storey stone extension designed to bring a new sense of space, light and connection to the home. The aim was to modernise the property and create a high-specification space for the clients to enjoy when they come to visit, while maintaining the character that makes Edinburgh’s traditional homes so unique.
A key part of the transformation has been improving the connection between inside and out. The new extension creates a more seamless flow through the home, opening up the living spaces and strengthening the relationship with the outdoor area. Combining traditional materials with a modern approach to layout, finish and functionality, this project is all about creating a home that feels connected, considered and completely tailored to how the clients want to use it.

When our clients bought this home, they loved the property and its surroundings. However they wanted a brighter, more comfortable space where they could sit back and properly enjoy their garden views throughout the year. That led to the design of this new sunroom extension.
Designed to bring more natural light into the home while creating a stronger connection to the garden, the new space gives the clients somewhere to relax, unwind and enjoy the views, whatever the weather.

The aim is to respect the character of the existing building while introducing a completely new way for the space to be used, creating a venue designed for weddings, private events and memorable occasions.
A key part of the design is the connection between inside and out. Large openings and carefully considered spaces will create a seamless flow throughout the venue, allowing guests to experience and enjoy the surrounding setting from every angle.

A well-designed workplace needs to do more than look good. It needs to work for the people using it every day.
For this commercial office fit-out, our team transformed the space to create a more functional, practical and professional working environment.
The works included the formation of new offices with stud walls and glazed sections, alongside five new fire-rated doors. We also carried out alterations to the electrical, data, lighting and heating systems to support the new layout and the day-to-day needs of the business.
Additional works included kitchen wall units, staff toilet refurbishment, hand dryers, tiling to the urinal wall, acoustic sound insulation to the party wall and full tape and paint finishes throughout.
Every element was carefully coordinated to create a space that not only looks the part but supports the way the team works.

𝐀𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 🔎

Sometimes the biggest transformation comes from making better use of the spaces you already have.
For this project, we created a new single-storey extension to connect the main house with the existing garage, improving the flow between the spaces and creating a more practical layout for everyday life.
Alongside the extension, we carried out a number of alterations throughout the property, including converting the existing downstairs WC into a dedicated shower room.
It’s a great example of how thoughtful changes can make a home work harder for the people living in it, improving functionality, connection and the way the spaces are used.
