Well… quite a day today!
Whilst unloading parts for a customer in Newport, somebody decided they quite liked the look of my van and stole it — the van I'd only bought on Saturday because my usual one is in the garage!
And, of course, it wasn't empty. Inside was pretty much my entire working life: tools, mobility parts, phones, laptop, credit cards, sat navs, cash… quite literally everything.
I phoned the police and then called a further FOUR times. The biggest problem was that without my phones I couldn't remember anybody's numbers or half my passwords, so there I was, stranded in Newport and unable to contact anyone.
Then came an act of kindness I'll genuinely never forget. The customer whose scooter I'd just repaired gave me £100 to get a taxi back to Swansea. What an absolutely lovely thing to do.
Once back, I cancelled my cards and managed to get into the tracking app.
And there it was… my van, showing as parked up in Newport!
So four of us headed straight back to Newport, keeping the police informed, and actually FOUND THE VAN on an estate.
To my amazement, virtually everything was still inside — tools, parts, laptop etc. The phones, radio and sat navs were missing.
Then I tried Find My Phone…
They were nearby!
So the four of us split up and started walking around what can only be described as a rather "interesting" estate, ringing the phones whilst getting plenty of attention from the locals!
Eventually Emily heard one ringing…
We found BOTH phones in a wheelie bin! 😂
Even better, my credit cards and driving licence were still with them. Apart from a few hundred pounds in cash, I'd somehow got almost everything back.
Unfortunately, there was no key for the van, so we had to break into it to get it onto the recovery vehicle, and we're only now finally getting back to Swansea.
As for the police… they never showed up.
So, after what could quite easily have wiped out my business overnight, I've been unbelievably lucky. A bit of damage, some missing cash and one hell of a story — but I've got my van, my tools and my livelihood back.
It's knocked me back a bit, and after the last couple of weeks I could certainly have done without it!
But tonight I'm counting my blessings.
And a massive thank you to everyone who helped me today — especially my customer for getting me home when I was completely stranded.
Talk about a rough couple of weeks!
