The Question Holiday Guests Are Now Asking

“Do you have an EV charger?”

More guests are asking this every year.

For many holiday properties the answer is still no.

Or worse, there is a charger but the owner ends up paying for every guest’s electricity.

That usually happens because the charger was installed without a proper charging platform.

No billing system.

No guest access.

Just free electricity.

At Manta Power we specialise in EV charging systems specifically designed for holiday accommodation.

We install the charger.

Connect it to a managed charging platform.

And guests pay for their electricity directly through the system.

Most installs cost around £1,000 after the current government grant.

If you want to understand how EV charging works for holiday lets, drop me a message.

Happy to explain it.

Why Most EV Chargers In Holiday Lets Lose Money

Many holiday properties now have EV chargers.

The problem?

Most of them are installed by electricians who simply fit the cheapest charger.

No billing.

No system.

No guest access control.

Which means every EV driver that stays there charges for free.

Electricity today is not cheap.

A proper EV system should:

• Allow guests to activate charging themselves
• Automatically bill drivers for electricity
• Work even if Wi-Fi drops
• Provide a clear usage record

That is exactly what we install at Manta Power.

A turn-key EV charging system designed specifically for holiday accommodation.

Guests scan a QR code and start charging.

The electricity is paid for directly through the charging platform.

No chasing payments.
No awkward conversations.

If you own holiday accommodation in Cornwall or Devon and want to see how the system works, send me a message.

The Extension Cable Problem

Last summer a guest asked a holiday cottage owner in Cornwall if they could charge their Tesla.

They ran an extension cable out of the kitchen window.

Across the patio.

Into the car.

It happens more often than you think.

EV drivers are travelling more every year, and if a property doesn’t have a proper charger, guests will find their own way to charge.

That usually means:

• Unsafe extension leads
• Electricity you’re paying for
• No way to recover the cost

A basic charger from a local electrician doesn’t fix this either.

Most of them give away electricity for free.

At Manta Power we install a complete EV charging system designed specifically for holiday accommodation.

Guests scan a QR code.
They pay for their electricity.
You recover the cost automatically.

Simple.

If you run a holiday cottage and want to understand how the system works, send me a message.

If EV guests are already asking to charge, you are late.
Not too late.
Just late.

EV drivers plan around charging.
They check listings.
They choose properties that feel easy.

A proper EV setup does three things:

• Makes your property more attractive
• Stops free electricity use
• Removes guest questions

This is no longer a future upgrade.
It is part of running a modern holiday let.

National EV companies love fixed prices.
So do we.

The difference is what happens after install.

Many systems come with:

• Monthly fees
• Annual contracts
• Support queues

That works for big networks.
It does not suit a single holiday let.

Our installs run without ongoing software costs for owners.
Guests pay.
You get paid.
No admin.

That is the whole point.

“An electrician said they can do it cheaper.”

They probably can.

And they will install a charger.
Nothing more.

Most electricians are not thinking about:

• Guest access
• Billing
• Reviews
• Holiday use

That is not their role.

Our role is different.
We only work with holiday lets.

The charger matters.
The system matters more.

Free EV charging sounds generous.
Until you add it up.

Let’s keep this simple.

• 50 kWh charge
• £0.30 per kWh
• £15 per stay

Two EV bookings per week.
That is £120 a month.
£1,400 a year.

That is one property.

Most owners never run the numbers.
They only see the bill later.

EV charging should not reduce your profit.
It should protect it.

We get asked this a lot.

“Do I really need a special EV setup for a holiday let?”

If guests stay one night, maybe not.
If they stay a week, absolutely.

Holiday lets are different from homes.

• Short stays
• Multiple drivers
• No long explanations

A domestic charger with no billing works at a house.
It fails in a rental.

Guest charging needs to be simple.
Scan.
Charge.
Pay.

If you have to explain it, it is already wrong.

Most holiday let owners already offer EV charging.
They just don’t charge for it.

It usually starts small.
One guest.
One cable.
One socket.

Then it becomes normal.

• Guests assume charging is free
• Usage goes untracked
• Electricity bills creep up

A single EV stay can use £25–£40 of power.
That is not rare.
That is typical.

The issue is not the charger.
It is the lack of control.

If guests can charge, they should pay for what they use.
Anything else is you covering the cost.

“Can’t I just get an electrician to do it cheaper?”

You can.
And plenty of people do.

Here’s what usually happens next.

• Charger installed
• Guest plugs in
• Electricity is free again

Most electricians install hardware.
They do not install guest billing systems.
They are not thinking about holiday lets, bookings, or reviews.

That is not a criticism.
It is just a different job.

We only work with holiday rentals.
Nothing else.

Every install includes:
• Controlled access
• Automatic guest billing
• No monthly software fees
• Full setup and handover

If EV charging is part of your guest experience, it needs to run properly without your involvement.

Most holiday lets don’t lose money on EV charging.
They just don’t notice it happening.

Here’s how it usually looks.

• Guest arrives with an EV
• They ask if they can charge
• You say yes, or point them at a socket
• A week later, the bill lands

One guest can easily use £25–£40 of electricity in a stay.
Two or three bookings like that each month adds up fast.

We see this all the time across Cornwall and Devon.

The fix is not “putting a charger on the wall”.
That’s the easy bit.

The real issue is control.
Who can charge.
How much they use.
Who pays.

That’s why we only install systems that bill guests automatically.
No apps to explain.
No chasing payments.
No awkward conversations.

If you rent a holiday let and EV guests are already asking, this is worth sorting before next season.
