We have shared a lot of steelwork recently so here's a nice bit of Metalwork from late 2021 in to early 2022. This is a staircase we detailed for 27 Mortimer Street in London. The stair demonstrated our expertise to speed up fabrication while producing a hidden connection stair. The zig zag stringers were laser cut from 25mm thick sheet. At the same time they were etched with outlines and had fitting marks etched on them to save the workshop set out for tread cleats etc. The edge was then drilled and tapped to receive the balustrade with matching zig zag bottom rail. The whole stair was detailed with connections hidden inside the soffited structure. The landing was hung on Macalloy bars from hidden steel structure in the ceiling zone. Finished in distinctive red the resulting stair is impressive. Great work by all involved.

We are in the closing stages of detailing the Marylebone House project in London. This has been part of the office furniture since late 2021. We initially started with temporary bracing for the existing structure ahead of demolition works. We then continued with an extension from 5th floor up to 9th floor. Then we have detailed a complex core infill for new stairs and lifts from basement to 9th floor complete with overruns. We have detailed areas of floor infill, plant screen etc too. This is the project we recently shared archive drawings for as we have had to cross reference from 1939 and 1963 schemes to add to it now. The core infill has a huge sitework package detailing connections back to the 1939 steel frame. We are in the closing stages now adding permanent bracing system to the existing 1963 RC frame. This has been an interesting and extremely challenging project. It just to sort of thing we love here at DraftSD. Looking forward to walking past our handiwork upon leaving Marylebone Station.

We love a shed at DraftSD. Here’s one from early 2022 which was an extension to existing sheds for Sewell Farms on behalf of Rock Construction Services. Nice drone shot and some model screenshots of the 7.5t hot rolled & 2.5t cold rolled frame.

Here’s a nice balustrade for some external precast flights at Castlepoint Shopping Centre in Bournemouth. Galvanised and powder coated balustrade with satin finished stainless steel handrail. Detailed to incorporate pre-ordered fittings from an opposite hand stair but adapted to suit the new survey. Looks the part and far more interesting than straight infill bars & standards. .

After a very busy 2022 we are rounding off various projects in to 2023 and looking forward to getting stuck in to new projects. We’ll share imagery of our recent work for you to see soon as it’s been a while since we have had chance to post. In the meantime here is a quick look at some reference drawings we have been working from. One of our projects is a complex refurbishment & extension of a concrete encased steel framed building built circa 1939 and subsequently extended in 1963. We are now finalising the Marylebone House project which has required a lot of detective work and survey review to produce accurate siteworks for our new steel frame. More to follow….
