A first‑time customer trusted me with a solid batch job — 20 top‑hat bushes for Access & Lifting.
Plenty of heavy material removal on these, all machined in‑house here in Northampton.
Great start to a new working relationship.

If you need one‑offs or batch work, DGL Engineering is open.

Another titanium job finished up.

Customer brought the material and a brilliant hand‑drawn technical drawing.
The long taper meant offsetting the tailstock by 10 mm and turning between centres.

Then I moved to the CNC mill with a 5C indexing head and tailstock to cut the flats — and match the large internal radius in the corner so everything blended cleanly with the lathe work.

I also made a mistake on one diameter. It happens to all of us. The important bit is fixing it and delivering the part properly.

Another repeat job completed this week — a customer needed another batch of aluminium light brackets I originally reverse‑engineered for them.
The originals were plastic and kept breaking, so I modelled and CNC machined a stronger aluminium version.
Now they just come back for small batches whenever they need them.
Love seeing practical engineering make someone’s life easier.

Not your everyday machining job…

Had an interesting one this week — a performer needed a custom prop, so I machined the whole thing from scratch.

• Bullet cases drilled on the lathe
• A brass ring drilled for eight perfectly spaced holes across 180°
• Everything aligned, pinned, and soft‑soldered together

Always enjoy the odd jobs that still require proper accuracy and clean workmanship.

🏁 Custom replica parts for classic race car restoration

A customer who specialises in restoring older race cars needed accurate replicas of two original components that are no longer available. We reverse‑engineered the old parts and produced new replacements to match the originals perfectly.

• Larger fl**ge: 6082 aluminium
• Smaller fastener: EN16T

Simple parts, but essential when you’re rebuilding machinery from a different era. If you need obsolete components recreated, DGL Engineering can help.

Nice quick job for Brazell Engineering this week.
Machined the rear gearbox housing (spigot + slot) and made a matching aluminium bracket from an off‑cut.
All done in a day!

🚗 Classic engineering meets rapid turnaround.

Brazell Engineering Ltd came to us with a brilliant project: modify a bell housing and create a custom input‑shaft adaptor for a 1950s race car.

The customer had a concept in mind, so we sat down together and modelled it in CAD on the spot. Once approved, we machined the adaptor from 6082 aluminium and carried out the bell‑housing modifications.

From first conversation to final delivery — 5 days.

Proud to keep these old machines alive and running, one custom part at a time.

Machining a counterbore in a cast aluminium gearbox housing.

This counterbore is being machined to locate a custom input shaft clamp that we’ll be manufacturing shortly. The recess allows the clamp to sit accurately in the housing while keeping everything concentric with the existing bore.

Cast aluminium housings can vary a bit in hardness and porosity, so light, controlled cuts help maintain a clean finish and good accuracy.

Always satisfying bringing components back into service with a proper engineered solution rather than replacing the whole unit.

A nice little job through the workshop this week.
A customer brought in a fuel rail blank for an older car and needed it modified. Before touching the actual part, we machined a small test‑fit piece from the offcut to confirm all the dimensions and clearances. They trial‑fitted it on the engine, everything lined up perfectly, and we’ve now got the green light to machine the real fuel rail.
Good preparation saves time, money, and headaches — especially on classic vehicles.
