Apparently, once wasn't enough!

I'm gearing up to take on HYROX Pro this December, and this time I'm doing it solo!

I'm currently dedicating around 5–8 hours a week to training, which takes a fair bit of juggling alongside running BJC and keeping on top of a busy workload.

Here's a little throwback to the last time I took part. Clearly, I've forgotten quite how hard it was, because I've somehow convinced myself to do it all over again!

One thing I've always tried to make time for, even when work is particularly busy, is having something outside of the business to focus on. It's not always easy to find the time, but I know how much better I feel when I do.

Running a business can be pretty all-consuming, and having something completely different to work towards is a good way to switch off from it all.

Although I'm not entirely sure HYROX Pro counts as relaxation!

Wish me luck. I think I'm going to need it!

This will always be one of our favourite projects to look back on.

That staircase, the sheer scale of the space, and the attention to detail throughout. It's one of those projects that really does take your breath away.

Sometimes we have to remind ourselves just how fortunate we are to be involved in projects of this calibre, working alongside incredibly talented people to bring such impressive spaces to life.

It's also a reminder of how far we've come, and that hard work, great relationships and, most importantly, a genuine commitment to quality really do pay off.

We're incredibly proud of the projects we're involved in, and this one will always be a particularly special one for us.

Project Update ~ Stoke Holy Cross.

We're now three months into our project in Stoke Holy Cross, where work is progressing well on a substantial two-storey extension, adding approximately 100m² of living space to the existing property.

We're currently installing the roof steels and preparing to break through into the existing house, marking another significant milestone in the build.

One of the things that's made this project particularly enjoyable is the fantastic team we have working on it. Everyone is pulling together, working collaboratively and sharing the same goal of delivering a great result for our client.

It's also a brilliant example of the value of being involved in a project right from the outset. Having that early involvement allows us to help specify and assemble the right project team, ensuring the right people are on board from day one.

And when everyone is working towards the same outcome, it makes all the difference.

The past few months have been particularly difficult, both personally and professionally, as I've been dealing with some serious health concerns within my immediate family.

It's meant having to suddenly reassess my priorities and make some changes to how I've been working, at least in the short term.

I wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to my clients and the contractors I work alongside for their understanding, flexibility, kindness and, most importantly, their trust.

When you run your own business, there's always that underlying pressure to keep everything moving, to be available and to make sure nobody feels the impact when life gets difficult behind the scenes.

But one thing this experience has really reinforced is just how much good working relationships matter.

When people show you compassion and understanding, it doesn't make you care any less about your work. Quite the opposite, actually. It makes you even more determined to do a great job for them, to go that extra mile and to repay the trust they've placed in you.

It's been a difficult few months, but also a reminder that the people you surround yourself with in business are just as important as the work itself.

And that a little bit of kindness and understanding really does go a long way.

So, thank you. It genuinely means more than you probably realise.

One of the things we're particularly proud of at BJC is our ability to offer a complete turnkey service, taking a project from the very early stages right through to the finished result.

For anyone considering a substantial renovation, extension or complete property redevelopment, there's an enormous amount to think about before construction even begins.

From understanding what's achievable and establishing realistic budgets to appointing the right contractors, coordinating designs and managing the build itself, there are a lot of moving parts.

That's where we come in.

Over the years, we've built a trusted network of contractors, consultants and specialists, along with the experience needed to bring everything together and keep projects running smoothly. We can be involved right from those initial conversations, helping clients understand their options, plan their budgets and make informed decisions before work gets underway.

And once construction begins, we're there to oversee the process, manage the details, and make sure everyone is working towards the same result. For our clients, it means having one team to turn to throughout the project, rather than trying to coordinate everything themselves.

If you're considering a building project in 2027 and aren't quite sure where to start, we'd be happy to have a conversation about how we can help.

Choosing a contractor is one of the most important parts of any project, and it’s definitely about much more than comparing a few numbers on a spreadsheet.

Yes, we look at the price. But we’re also considering availability, lead times, quality of work, experience, communication and whether they’ve delivered similar projects successfully before.

We’ll spend time reviewing previous projects, case studies and examples of completed work, alongside carrying out due diligence around references, insurance, financial stability and how they actually operate day to day.

There’s a lot that goes into making the right appointment.

Because the reality is, you’re not just buying a service; you’re choosing the team that will help bring the project to life.

The cheapest option isn’t always the best value, and the biggest name isn’t always the right fit either.

It’s about finding that balance between quality, capability, programme, budget and trust.

When you get that balance right, the whole project benefits.

"No one wants to fall in love with a plan, only to discover later that the budget can’t support it."

That’s why involving us early can make such a difference: we review the design with cost in mind and work alongside the project team to ensure the plans being prepared are realistic for your budget.

By talking through costs and options while the design is still taking shape, you have more room to make informed decisions and keep the project moving in the right direction.

A few open conversations at the start can help prevent expensive surprises further down the line and give your project a much stronger foundation.

Some projects keep you on your toes more than others, and this is definitely one of them!

This huge section of glazing spans around 15 metres and has proven to be one of the most complex elements BJC has encountered to date.

With a hidden frame design, brick soffits and detailed reveals, the installation demands an incredible level of precision before the glass even arrives on site.

The preparation involved has been extensive, and the value of the materials alone means there is very little room for error.

It’s one of those parts of a project where planning, sequencing and attention to detail really matter, and where all the work behind the scenes is just as important as the finished result.

A seriously impressive piece of design, and one of the most technically challenging installations we’ve taken on.

Another project showcase, and a glimpse at the scale and specification of this exceptional London transformation.

This bespoke residential sauna is just one element of a much wider project, where the ambition, investment and attention to detail are evident in every space.

Projects of this calibre come with significant budgets, but also the highest expectations. Every trade, finish, installation and stage of the programme has to be carefully managed and coordinated to ensure the result reflects that standard.

It’s a real privilege to be entrusted with the management of a project of this scale, working alongside an exceptional team in JD Build and Francasca Leat Interiors, to transform this London property into something truly special.

When your construction project could be one of the biggest investments of your life, can you afford to rely on guesswork?

Ben brings experience from working across many projects, including lessons learned from mistakes, difficult situations, and seeing what can happen when people don’t act professionally. He uses that experience to look beyond the quote and ask the questions that can protect your project.

He prefers to recommend contractors he knows and has worked with. When that isn’t possible, he meets new contractors in person and checks their insurances, financial standing, relevant experience, case studies, and credit reports before recommending them.

That independent oversight takes time, but it gives you someone in your corner, helping you make informed decisions and spot potential problems before they become expensive ones.

Why take a risk with an investment that matters this much?
