I want to take a moment to show my appreciation for someone who has had a truly life-changing impact on me Rob Songer.
I first met Rob when I was around 17-18 years old, just starting out as a bricklaying apprentice. Back then, he was my college tutor . He didn’t just teach brickwork; he built standards, discipline, and pride into everything I did.
After completing my apprenticeship, I went off in different directions. Then, out of the blue, I received a phone call from Rob asking if I wanted to come and work alongside him. It was an opportunity I didn’t hesitate to accept and it turned out to be one of the best decisions of my life.
I feel incredibly privileged to have worked with Rob for nearly 10 years. His talent is unmatched, and the depth of knowledge and skill he has would take most people a lifetime if not two to acquire. But what makes him truly exceptional isn’t just his ability; it’s his willingness to pass that knowledge on.
If it wasn’t for Rob, I wouldn’t be the man or the tradesman I am today. He gave me the confidence to take on projects I once would have doubted myself over. He set a standard in my work that I carry with me every single day.
What started as a tutor-student relationship has grown into a genuine friendship one I hold very close to my heart. Rob will always be a huge part of my journey, and I’m proud to still call him a mentor and a friend.
Thank you, Rob, for seeing potential in me when others didn’t. Thank you for the patience, the lessons, the standards, and for still keeping me on my toes to this day.
I’ve never known someone to put so much of their own time into helping others learn. A truly selfless man. The amount he gives back to the trade and to the next generation is something you rarely see.
For anyone wanting to learn brickwork properly I strongly recommend checking out Rob Songer’s YouTube channel. You won’t regret it.
One of the very best bricklayers to ever do it and I’ll stand by that.
