A sunny couple of days at Suffolk Show 2026 teaching the local community life-saving skills!🌟

It was fantastic to be back at the Suffolk Show (Official) on 27–28 May, one of the county’s most iconic agricultural events. Dating back to 1832, the show continues to celebrate the rich heritage, culture and industry of Suffolk, bringing together communities, businesses and organisations from across the region.

We were proud to support Suffolk County Council for a third consecutive year on their stand, showcasing the work being delivered through our Suffolk Street Lighting contract.

Since last year’s show, our team has continued to deliver essential services across the county, including:
✅ Maintaining 84,996 street lighting assets
✅ Supporting 157 road traffic collision incidents
✅ Completing 17,402 structural tests
✅ Carrying out 27,610 electrical tests

This year also saw a fantastic increase in our community engagement activities. We delivered first aid training to more than 260 local Suffolk children - an increase of 30% compared with 2025. Teaching the local community first aid allows them to learn important life-saving skills and gives them confidence to act in an emergency. It also promotes safety awareness and encourages children to help others in their community.

Visitors also had the opportunity to experience rides in our MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform), gaining a unique insight into the health and safety procedures our teams follow and just how high they work when changing street lighting lanterns.

A huge thank you to Clive, Kate, John, Ethan, Tyler and Rebecca for representing the business and helping make the event such a success, especially while working through the exceptionally hot weather! ☀️

Events like the Suffolk Show are a great opportunity to engage with local communities, showcase the important work our teams deliver every day, and inspire the next generation.

Celebrating a momentous day in Nottingham with the opening of the new Footbridge!🎉🌉

This new Waterside Bridge will provide safer cycling and pedestrian commuter and leisure routes connecting the regenerated Trent Basin area (including 350 new homes and new schools), and the south side of the river, home to key Nottingham Landmarks.

Our team have spent the last year working with Balfour Beatty for My Nottingham, delivering all the civil engineering works on both sides of the river, comprising temporary and permanent elements.

Works include:
• Enabling works for site clearance and construction facilities
• Temporary construction for crane lifting and piling platforms
• Drainage and ducting
• Earthworks
• Kerbing and paving
• Pre-cast concrete units
• Signage, Lighting and CCTV
• Landscaping

McCann are proud to be celebrating International Women’s Day this week!

The theme this year is “Give to Gain”, emphasising the power of reciprocity, mentorship and meaningful support. When we invest our time, knowledge and encouragement into others, we not only help them grow, we also strengthen our own teams, our industry and our communities in return.

There was no better way to begin the week than by visiting Weatherhead High School, an inspiring 11–18 girls’ comprehensive school in Wirral, to deliver a careers talk to their students.

Our Culture and Social Impact Manager, Kate Barrett, alongside Quantity Surveyor, Lucy Parker, introduced students to McCann and showcased the wide range of opportunities available across the Highways, Construction and Infrastructure sectors. From project management and quantity surveying to engineering, design, sustainability, social impact and beyond, the session highlighted that there is no single pathway into our industry, and that diverse skills, perspectives and ambitions are what drive it forward.

It was fantastic to see such curiosity, confidence and engagement from the students. By sharing real career journeys and honest insights, we hope we’ve helped demystify the industry and demonstrate that these careers are accessible, rewarding and open to everyone.

International Women’s Day is not just about celebration; it’s about action. “Give to Gain” reminds us that small contributions of time and encouragement can have a lasting impact. If we want a more inclusive, innovative and representative industry, we must continue showing up, speaking out and supporting the next generation.

Here’s to creating opportunities, building confidence and inspiring future leaders, not just this week, but all year round.

📢Calling all Chilwell (Nottingham, UK) locals and businesses📢

To better support our local community, we’ve relocated our defibrillator from inside our office at McCann House to an external emergency cabinet just outside our building, ensuring faster and easier access in a cardiac emergency.

The cabinet is located on the right-hand side of the fire escape on Ranson Road, and the defibrillator is now registered with East Midlands Ambulance Service, making it available 24/7 for community use.

Defibrillators save lives and early access can significantly improve survival rates in cases of sudden cardiac arrest, which is why making this device publicly accessible is so important to McCann.

What an honour and privilege to attend the 2025 Heroes Awards in London last month.

The McCann team had a wonderful evening celebrating some truly exceptional people from across our industry. The stories of kindness, selflessness, and going above and beyond were deeply inspiring, and every nominee and winner was more than deserving of the recognition they received.

Congratulations to all of the winners and nominees 👏

We were very happy to support the Christmas Gift Donation Drive, in partnership with The Salvation Army Hoxton, by donating presents to help bring some festive cheer. McCann were grateful to be there, to celebrate others, hear their stories, and recognise the positive impact they continue to make within our industry!

Congratulations to our very own Raymond for winning Skanska’s Observation of the Month!

While working on the M42 J6 project, Raymond noted that “fly-tipping was recorded at PMA along the verge area. The affected access road verge area, which is used by the public and our operational teams, was left with debris and waste.”

He then went above and beyond his usual duties by arranging traffic management to temporarily close the road for a short duration and removed the fly-tipped rubbish using a grab lorry. Raymond took the waste back to the compound for safe disposal.

Well done, Raymond, not only for winning this award but also for going above and beyond in your role and keeping the site and highways safe and clean!

Skanska, working for National Highways, are leading the major upgrade of the M42 Junction 6 in Solihull, to relieve severe congestion and support future regional growth. As a key delivery partner, McCann handled extensive works including street lighting, traffic signals, communications, drainage, kerbing, footpaths, ducting, cabling, technology installations, and structural concrete across two contract packages.
