🚧 MJL Commence Development Works 🚧

MJL Groundworks & Civils are pleased to announce that we have commenced highway and drainage works on a development in Skipton.

As these works are being carried out within a fully occupied and habitable development, there are naturally additional challenges involved in maintaining safe access for residents while progressing the project efficiently. For those who live on this development and others we work on, we would like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience that may be caused during the course of the works and thank residents for their patience and understanding.

For everyone’s safety, we ask that extra care is taken when driving around the development. All active work areas will be clearly coned or fenced off to ensure the safety of residents, visitors, and our workforce.

MJL have recently completed works at a Pumping Station in York on behalf of our client AdvanceTwo Ltd. We took over this site following previous preparation works by others following concerns on the ground to the rear of the site.

Due to these ground settlement issues, our scope included removing the mesh and previously installed edging kerbs, breaking out the existing slab and excavating to a depth of 500–600mm to reach suitable bearing ground. We then imported and compacted new Type 1 stone.

As part of the works, one of the surface water chambers was taken out of service, allowing our team to safely enter and replace a cracked ring with a new 500mm deep, 2100mm diameter unit. This required an internal scaffold arrangement to ensure safe access within the confined space.

Finally we prepared and poured new concrete slabs across the full area, bringing the pumping station up to the required standards for Yorkshire Water adoption

Great work from the site team to deliver a challenging project safely and efficiently!

✨ Project Complete near Harrogate! ✨

We’ve recently finished a stunning hard landscaping project for a client at a beautiful Grade II listed property near Harrogate — and what a transformation it’s been!

Our work included:

🔹 Installation of Cobbled Borders
🔹 Riven Buff Yorkstone paving to the front and side of the property
🔹 A bespoke stepped wall feature with ACO drainage
🔹 A cobbled radius entrance with planter
🔹 Full driveway reprofiling, levelling & resurfacing
🔹 Replacement of limestone chippings with Quartz stone to the lower drive
🔹 Upgraded drainage runs
🔹 Widening of the curved wall and planter area
🔹 Installation of duct runs for power & future charging points near the garden room

Really pleased to see this one over the line and great work from the teams involved.

Another productive week for the MJL teams across multiple sites

We’ve been busy reconstructing a section of spine road in Pontefract following settlement issues, re-profiling a public open space in Wakefield and preparing for the installation of new 20 new cast iron bollards in Mexborough.

Meanwhile, our landscaping team has been hard at work completing the main bulk lay of Yorkstone paving for a client’s driveway in Harrogate — and the results are looking great.

We recently attended a property where a small watercourse runs through the rear garden and into a culvert beneath the verge and private road. The existing steel plate, which had been in place for many years, had finally deteriorated due to rust — raising concerns about a potential collapse, blockage, and risk of flooding.

Our team attended site promptly and carried out the following works:

✔️ Excavated over the existing plate
✔️ Safely removed the failed structure
✔️ Installed multiple concrete lintels for a long-lasting solution

Before backfilling, we also took the opportunity to improve the appearance of the area by:

🧱 Constructing a small stone retaining wall
🌱 Reinstating the verge with fresh turf

Another productive Saturday morning on site 💪

We carried out tarmacing works with the help of our subcontractors across a 425m² area that had been suffering from multiple potholes, repairs and weak spots. We overlaid the surface with 40mm of AC10 DBM surfacing, leaving a strong, durable finish at our Head Office Car Park.

To complete the job, we reinstated all the required white lining, bringing the area back to a clean, safe, and professional standard.

Great effort from the team and MJL’s Nick Cheetham to assist in getting this completed efficiently and to a high standard 👏

MJL Groundworks & Civils Ltd welcomed Robert Sines today from Meon to deliver training for us on our site at Barnard Castle. With the day split in to three parts, training was delivered to a number of our site operatives on Magmas Ironwork System the Permafyx cold-applied technology.

We held a theory session in the morning, followed by practical demonstrations in the compound on bedding of the ironwork, use of the flowable backfill concrete before installation of Permafyx Asphalt Repair. This was followed by a live delivery on an cover and frame that needed adjusting on the site. All of these systems applied cold, in quick time with no hot work, no compaction equipment and traffic-ready in under an hour!

Our site teams often carry this work out having to collect small loads of tarmac in our hotbox and now as Installers following the Approved Installer Programme, we can reduce time and risk, carry out ironwork repairs and remove the traffic management in a matter of a couple of hours.

This HAPAS Approved product will allow us to assist our clients with MH Chamber Repairs, Gully Repairs as well as other Utility Ironwork, bringing our kit to site for a swift repair using Permafyx.

A big thank you to Meon and all the team who have supported and guided us. MJL are looking forward to implementing this solution across our projects, existing and new 🚧👷🏻‍♂️
