Rise Innovation Fund Challenge 2026 | Semi-Finalist Spotlight

In the displacement camps of Eastern Congo, 2,500 schools have been closed or taken over by armed groups. Junior Bahozi Johnson, a Rise Finalist from the DRC, built SomaSasa (Learn Now), an offline mobile toolkit that turns the national curriculum into short audio lessons, so any literate adult in a camp can tutor a group of children, with no internet or classroom needed.

Congratulations, Junior, on reaching the semi-finals.

On June 1, 2026, innovators and civic leaders gathered in Hong Kong for the APEC Meets Silicon Valley Forum, a day of dialogue on AI, human development, and regional collaboration organized by MEBO International and the Bay Area Council, in collaboration with the Clinton Global Initiative and Equitech Futures.

Equitech Futures Founder Dr. Abhilash Mishra joined a panel at HKU iCube examining how Asia-Pacific economies can move from AI-driven transformation toward stronger institutions and broader opportunities. At the heart of his argument: 800 million people will enter the global workforce over the next decade, with only 400 million jobs projected to be created. Basic literacy is no longer enough. And the people shaping the policy response to this crisis are still not the people most affected by it.

True shared progress depends on enabling emerging innovators to translate the benefits of AI widely, making it more inclusive and equitable.

Rise Innovation Fund Challenge 2026 | Semi-Finalist Spotlight

Smallholder farmers in Africa lose up to 40% of their harvest before it reaches any market. Nguru Joel Kamau, a Rise Finalist from Kenya, built Vuna to change that: solar-powered cold storage pods paired with a B2B marketplace app that let farmers store produce safely and sell directly to supermarkets and hotels.
Congratulations, Nguru, on reaching the semi-finals.

Rise Innovation Fund Challenge 2026 | Semi-Finalist Spotlight

In Peru, software often costs more than people earn. Nicolas Favio Orozco Davila, a Rise Finalist from Peru, built Librehaus Codebaya to change that, training young people aged 13 to 18 to use and teach free, open-source software across their own communities.

Congratulations, Nicolas, on reaching the semi-finals.

A $3,000 program. For $8.25. Here is the story.

AI for Science Summer School is a four-week live program where high school students and undergraduates learn to use AI the way research scientists actually do. Taught by Dr. Amy Barr Mlinar, Senior Scientist on NASA’s Europa Clipper Mission, and Dr. Abhilash Mishra, Founder of Equitech Futures.

We did not want cost to be the reason a curious student stays out. So we built the AI for Science Challenge, a way in that rewards how you think, not what you can pay. Answer a set of thought-provoking questions, and you could earn admission and up to 100% tuition aid.

This is for the student who sees a closed door and looks for the way in.

💬 Type “INTERESTED” below and we will send the application link, plus our full Q&A recording on the program and the challenge, straight to your inbox.
