We’ve just wrapped up a truly special project in the heart of Thame. A full home transformation that blends modern design with the warmth and character of a family home.
This one had everything:

🚧 Big Screed Pour at Halley Court in Oxford! 🚧

Our team has been hard at work on a major commercial project at the Halley Court building on the Jordan Hill Estate.

In total, we installed 120m³ of Cemfloor liquid screed across the entire project — that’s the equivalent of around 18 pre-mix lorries delivered and pumped directly onto site. 💪

🔹 50m³ installed in the first phase on the first floor
🔹 70m³ completed to finish the floor this week
🔹 120m³ total poured

This week our team spray-applied over 1,500m² of Larsen Acrylic Primer across a large project in Oxford to prepare the substrate for a fully bonded Cemfloor cementitious liquid screed install.

Priming isn’t a “nice to have” — it’s absolutely essential. Larsen’s Acrylic Primer is designed specifically for porous or challenging substrates, improving adhesion and sealing the surface to ensure the screed bonds exactly as it should. Without it, you risk debonding, inconsistent curing, and long-term floor failure.

Why priming matters before liquid screed

- Improves adhesion between substrate and screed, preventing future movement or delamination.
- Controls suction, ensuring the screed cures uniformly across the entire floor area.
- Seals porous surfaces, reducing the risk of rapid moisture loss and weak spots.

Big commercial liquid screed pours don’t succeed on the day, they succeed in the prep.

On this 3,000m² Cemfloor Cementitious Liquid Screed install in Oxfordshire, the real work happened long before the pump switched on.

When you’re dealing with areas this size, poor prep = poor performance. There’s no hiding from it.

To keep everything controlled, compliant and crack‑free, we used Metex Expansion & Control Joints throughout the floor plate. They’re reliable, quick to install, and essential for managing movement on large flowing screed pours.

Why we use Metex joints
- Controls movement across large floor plates
- Reduces cracking and stress points
- Clean, consistent bay separation
- Ideal for liquid screeds like Cemfloor
- Saves time and avoids remedial work later

Bay sizes matter

With Cemfloor, bays can go up to around 100m² depending on layout and UFH zones.
On this project, that meant breaking down all 3,000m² into properly separated, well‑controlled bays using Metex joints — no shortcuts, no guesswork, just solid prep.

🎥 What’s a Slump Test? 👷‍♂️
Before we start pouring your liquid screed, we always carry out a slump (flow) test — it’s a quick quality check to make sure the mix is just right.
We take the first bit of screed from the lorry, pour it into a stainless steel flow cone, lift it, and measure how it flows out.
✅ If it spreads correctly, it’s perfect consistency for a smooth, level finish.
❌ Too thick or too thin? It won’t make it to your floor until it’s spot-on.
It’s all part of the J&H Lynch commitment to precision, performance, and perfect floors.

🛠️ A Little Tripod Trick 🛠️

When we’re liquid screeding, we use a neat little trick with the tripods to make the job faster and more accurate. 👌

But here’s the interesting part… sometimes, perfectly “level” isn’t the right answer. When you’re working with existing floors, you need to adapt making sure the new finish ties in seamlessly with what’s already there.

This week we’ve been putting both into practice alongside Aspect Construction and the results are looking spot on. ✅
