Vacancy – Quality Assurance Inspector

Oxford Packaging Solutions (OPS) is an independent around the clock-based manufacturer in Chalgrove, Oxfordshire which has been established for over 25 years, providing a high-quality service for the pharmaceutical, food & drink, personal care and household sectors, specialising in injection blow moulding in PET, RPET, PP and HDPE materials. We are currently recruiting a Quality Assurance Inspector to join our friendly, open and supportive, fast paced, customer driven team which is always looking to innovate, develop and improve what we do, creating an opportunity for you to develop and grow your career with us.

As the Quality Inspector you will be responsible for Product Quality

Key Responsibilities:

• Visual inspection of all production machines to predefined visual standards.
• Conducting dimensional tests in accordance to prescribed test methods and product specification.
• Notifying the shift Manager of all issues pertaining to product quality or food safety.
• Ensuring non-conforming product is segregated and documented.
• Ensuring that all Back-checks are conducted to prevent non-conforming goods are conducted.
• Ensuring all testing equipment used has been identified with calibration details.
• Keeping the lab and general working area tidy at all times. •
• Entering all quality dimensional information into the Infinity system.
• Raise non-conformance alarms on the Infinity system
• Conduct and record leak and metal test results
• Ensuring all packaging is to specification
• Ensuring proper use of the CMM machine
• Assist Quality Manager in problem solving and or failure investigations
• Notifying the Quality Manager of any quality and or safety issues •
• Ensuring the oncoming shift inspector is fully briefed on all issues on shift changeover
• Any other duties required by the Quality Manager

Experience and qualifications:
• Strong organizational skills, including ability to follow assignments through to completion
• Attention to detail and good follow through with a high level of accuracy
• Ability to work towards deadlines
• Ability to act on own initiative, working alone or in a team environment
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with people at all levels of the organisation.
• Relevant experience working with measuring equipment in the manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
• Experience in the use of CMM would be an advantage.

• Minimum starting salary of £11.50 (Actual salary agreed upon experience)
• Permanent Contracts
• Current shift patter is 41.66 hours per week on average, 6-2, 2-10, 10-6, Monday – Friday, however this may change back to Monday afternoon to Saturday afternoon.
• Opportunity for Overtime at premium rates
• 21 days paid holidays a year plus bank holidays
• Sickness pay is at the Managers discretion.

This position with receive internal training at OPS that will complement the apprenticeship programme delivered by Oxfordshire Advanced Skills, Culham providing excellent training across the Engineering, Production and Quality assurance departments. Providing general understanding of engineering theory, developing technical skills across all departments, providing the solid foundation for apprentices to advance to the L4 completion.

The foundation of the engineering apprentice could lead to various positions within the business including development of equipment, development of new products, machine improvements, supervisory/ management positions.

Key Learning-

> Mechanical & Electrical principles & operations
> Fault Finding, Machine & Electrical Diagnosis
> Tool setting & processing
> Project management: developing new products, processes and equipment
> Good practical housekeeping at all times
> Understanding and compliance with Health & Safety procedures and practices, always promoting a safe at work attitude
> Understanding of working in a team
> Application of Engineering principles across multiple departments and businesses

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self- motivated, hardworking apprentice who would like to start their career in production and engineering.
You will demonstrate an interest in engineering and practical skills through extracurricular activities, which can vary from making and building things to design and technology.

What we need from you
• Adhere to safe systems of working practices and be able to follow direction and process in a respectful and compliant manner
• Drive, enthusiasm, and commitment to learning new skills, seeking opportunities for personal development, and passing on knowledge to others.
• The ability to communicate effectively and engage positively and proactively with colleagues across the business
• Willingness to work shifts including days, nights and weekends.
The position is 40 hours per week with 21 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays per annum. Work schedules incorporate some shift work with a main focus on training and development.

Training Programme
Year 1 – Full time at OAS, Culham
Year 2 –Full time at OPS with block release training at OAS
Year 3 and subsequent years - Full time at OPS with on-site support from OAS

• Assist the shift engineer with equipment issues.
• Ensure Health and Safety procedures and practises are adhered to; always promote a safe working attitude.
• To complete appropriate documentation and records with respect to production and quality procedures.
• Participate in corrective action, FMEA and general improvement projects. To be flexible with respect to working hours and general attitude.

Multi-skilled engineer with either a Mechanical or Electrical bias
Experienced in pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

• Carry out plant equipment breakdown repairs to an agreed standard within an agreed time.
• Carry out routine maintenance to plant equipment as required.
• To assist and support other job functions across the shift and plant.
• Assist the shift personnel with production and carry out necessary adjustments to maintain quality, standard and output.
• Ensure Health and Safety procedures and practises are adhered to; promote a safe working attitude at all times.
• To complete appropriate documentation and records with respect to production, quality and maintenance procedures.
• Participate in corrective action, FMEA and general quality improvement projects.
