UTCs are meeting the nee

ds of the skills gap. UTCs integrate technical, practical and academic learning and create an environment where students can thrive and develop the abilities that industry needs. UTCs specialise in subjects where there is a shortage of skills. By working with a university and local employers, UTC students benefit from access to:
β€’ the latest research, industry experts and specialist facilities
β€’ real-life employer projects that stretch their technical skills and creative thinking
β€’ teaching and mentoring from specialists who currently work in industry. UTCs are smaller than traditional secondary schools. They are not academically selective and charge no fees. 🌟 From a Nervous New Starter to Apprenticeship Success! 🌟

There are moments in education that remind us exactly why we do what we do, and this is certainly one of them.

This week, our Careers Leader, Sonia, received a wonderful email from Abigail's mum:

πŸ’¬ "Thank you for being a part in what my daughter has achieved. She would not have her apprenticeship without putting her in contact with John. So as a very proud parent thank you."

This was followed by a lovely message from Abigail herself, sharing that she is settling in well at Hinchingbrooke Hospital and enjoying life as an apprentice.

Abigail joined Greater Peterborough UTC in Year 12 as a quiet student, but with a clear ambition: she wanted to study a T Level and pursue a career as a Biomedical Engineer.

Over the past two years, we have watched her grow in confidence, develop her technical skills and fully embrace every opportunity available to her. From excelling on her industry placement to becoming an outstanding ambassador for our school, Abigail has been a fantastic example of what can be achieved through hard work, resilience and determination.

One of our proudest moments was seeing Abigail confidently address a room full of members from the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, where she spoke passionately about the benefits of T Levels and industry placements. To see how far she had come from that nervous Year 12 student made us incredibly proud.

Her success on placement has now helped secure the apprenticeship she worked so hard for, and we could not be happier for her.

Congratulations, Abigail. We know this is just the beginning of an exciting career journey. We also know this won't be goodbye, as we look forward to welcoming you back as part of our growing UTC Alumni community.

πŸ’™ If you're considering your next steps and would like to find out more about our T Levels, we're open tomorrow, Friday 21st August, from 10am to 1pm.

Come and discover where a T Level could take you.

πŸŽ‰ Student Success: Congratulations, Edward! πŸŽ‰

Following on from A Level results last week, we received an amazing email from Edward who we are incredibly proud of. Joining us in Year 12 and he achieved an outstanding set of A Level results:
⭐ A* Computer Science
⭐ A Mathematics
⭐ B Further Mathematics
⭐ B Physics

This September, Edward will be taking the next exciting step in his journey, studying Computer Science at the University of Bath.

Reflecting on his time at GPUTC, Edward shared:
"GPUTC has been a great transition from GCSE to Uni for me. I've learnt to be more independent in my research through homework or classroom projects. Each of my teachers have been knowledgeable, offering their industry experience as a way to contextualise my learning, which has really cultivated a passion for STEM in my two years."

Edward also highlighted the many enrichment opportunities available at UTC:
"UTC has excelled at extra opportunities, including Game Jams, Hackathons, Cyber Security lectures and Employer networking events, which have given me great experiences to reflect on and put on my CV, as well as social skills and even work!"

From developing games with his Computer Science classmates to exploring the links between music and physics through a fascinating Theremin and oscilloscope project, Edward embraced every opportunity to extend his learning and discover new career possibilities.

"It opened up Electronics Engineering as a potential career path for me."

We are delighted that Edward found his passion, developed his skills and built the independence needed to thrive at university and beyond.

Everyone at Greater Peterborough UTC wishes Edward every success as he begins this exciting new chapter at the University of Bath. We have no doubt he will achieve great things, and we look forward to welcoming him back in the future as one of our valued UTC Alumni.

πŸ‘ Congratulations, Edward. Your future looks exceptionally bright!
