We had a great evening last night at the Building Plymouth Apprentice of the Year awards at Market Hall in Devonport.

3rd year apprentice Sam Young was shortlisted as a finalist for the Trade Apprentice of the year, and attended the awards alongside his family, Lee Livingston- MEC’s Apprentice Mentor and The Focus Training Group.

While Sam did not take home the Ron Simmonds trophy, he conducted himself exceptionally well and demonstrated that he has a great future ahead.

Well done to all the apprentices, both finalists and winners.

This week we brought the team together at Plymouth Albion RFC for an end-of-year Toolbox Talk — with around two-thirds of our workforce in attendance. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what has been a great year and chance to look ahead at what’s to come.

As a small token of our appreciation, every member of the team received a Christmas hamper to say thank you for their hard work and commitment. Our people are the reason we’re able to deliver at the level we do.

We’re also proud to be heading into 2026 with a record order book along with some exciting opportunities, which is a real testament to the quality of our delivery, our growing reputation, and the trust our clients place in us.

A massive thank you to the whole MEC team, our suppliers and clients — here’s to an exciting year ahead!

A big thanks to Edmundson Electrical Ltd for supplying Dan, our latest electrical apprentice, with a new tool kit from CK Tools.

This tool kit will allow Dan to start his career with good quality tools, specifically designed for the industry.

Thanks to Sam Truscott and Daniel Cook for arranging and supporting Dan in his training.

Last week a team from MEC attended the Zucchini Legrand factory in Italy as part of our expansion to becoming a licensed installer of Legrands Medium and High Power Busbar systems.

With previous experience in the installation of the RCP Cast Resin Busbar system, the additional technical training means MEC is now able to offer a full installation package for RCP, XCM and XCP busbar from 630A to 6000A, supported by Legrand.

Our thanks to Paul Franks, Legrand Specification Engineer in supporting us through the process and being a fantastic host for our team.

Today we welcome our new electrical apprentice into the MEC team!

Dan comes straight from school after successfully completing his GCSE’s

He will be undertaking his training with us and in partnership with The Focus Training Group.

We wish Dan the best of luck and look forward to seeing his development, as he starts his journey on the road to becoming an Electrician.
