How to save money on your heating!

• Adjust the temperature: Turn down your thermostat and the flow temperature on your boiler.

•Schedule your heating: Use a timer or program your thermostat to turn the heating on and off when you're home.

•Close off unused rooms: Turn off radiators in rooms you're not using.

•Seal drafts: Use draft-proofing strips or brushes to seal gaps around doors and windows

•Reduce hot water use: Take shorter showers and don't boil more water than you need.

Wear more layers: Put on extra layers of clothing so you can turn down the heat.

•Use a chimney balloon or umbrella: If you have a fireplace or chimney, use a balloon or umbrella to block drafts.

•Fill gaps in floorboards and skirting: Use a silicone-based filler to prevent hot air from escaping.

•Upgrade your thermostat: Consider getting a newer thermostat that communicates with your boiler.

Why is my heating not getting warm enough?

There are a number of reasons for this, all of which we can help with!

Your radiators might not be getting hot due to trapped air requiring bleeding, a malfunctioning boiler or central heating pump.

Also, your thermostatic radiator valves might be stuck or set too low, or the central heating system having sludge or rust which causes blockages.

Test your heating before you need it!

You probably don’t want to think about it, but the cold weather will be here in a matter of weeks. You may be preparing for this by putting away the summer wardrobe and thinking of a new winter coat. But have you thought about testing your central heating system before the winter arrives? Your hot water may be fine, but after a long summer with little or no use, you could have issues with your heating.

Testing your heating system is working should be easy and will only take a few minutes. So why not try it now?

The first cold spell is one of our busiest times, so it could take us longer to get to you if you do have any issues.

To check your central heating:

Ensure your boiler control and/or central heating timer is set to the ‘heating on’ mode.

Ensure your room thermostat (if fitted) is set to maximum.

Ensure all radiators are turned on. Valves with numbers should be set to the highest setting.
Valves without numbers should have the valve open (turn these the same way you would to turn on a tap).

After a few minutes (larger properties may take longer) you should feel the radiators start to warm up.

Leave the system running and check all your radiators to ensure they all start to heat up.

Once you are satisfied that all your radiators are working properly you can return the controls and valves to the settings which are comfortable for you.
