Works have continued on getting Lord Oliver Brown ready for a busy summer ahead! The locomotive is now back in the 1st coat of its iconic colours and the mechanical lubricator clutch strip down is finally over. After a long battle and a soak of the clutch in diesel for a week, it all came apart. The body which holds in the rollers and springs was found to be cracked (some of these cracks would have been caused by the strip down, some look like they've been there a while) and you can also see pitting in the sidewalls where the rollers were pressed against the side- all this would have caused the lubricator to loose some of its motion. The next stage is to machine a new body out of steel and re-fit new rollers and springs.

It won't be long before we will be back out again - what content and videos would you like to see on here? Let us know below 👇

Whilst the locomotive is taking a bit of a break from trains this month we have taken the opportunity to tackle some more maintenance. We currently have a slipping mechanical lubricator clutch so that is being stripped and repaired (does anyone hold drawings for these lubricators?)- as is often the case this has proven more challenging than you would think without having prior knowledge of what's inside.

Earlier on in the month, our air pump suffered from a cracked delivery air valve, resulting in the pump not delivering the air pressure required. We think this breakage was caused by the method we previously used to extract the valves - one of our volunteers created an extraction tool to make this job a lot easier and it reduced the strain on the casting.

If you want to get involved and keep Lord Oliver Brown maintained get in touch!

We can certainly get used to this - another opportunity to see and ride behind Lord Oliver Brown this weekend! Lord Oliver Brown will be pulling trains tomorrow (19/4), partnering with the intercity Sentinel No 10077. We reckon this is almost certainly preservation's most authentic pairing and it's the first time they've pulled trains together. Don't miss out and head to Plym Valley Railway. And remember to say hi to our pink duck Sir-Quacks-A-Watt as he bobs up and down.
