Autumn brings a noticeable change across the sites our vegetation management teams look after.

As the main growing season comes to an end, it’s a good opportunity to tackle overgrown areas, improve access and visibility, manage vegetation around infrastructure and prepare sites for the months ahead.

Our teams work across highways, utilities and wider infrastructure projects, where vegetation needs to be managed carefully around operational requirements, environmental constraints and the habitats we work alongside.

Good vegetation management comes down to timing, planning and knowing what each site needs. And at this time of year, there’s plenty to be getting on with.

Landscaping changes with the seasons, and autumn brings plenty to keep our teams busy.

As summer planting begins to settle and growth slows, attention turns to aftercare, pruning, replacement planting, preparing beds and making sure landscapes are in good condition heading into winter.

It takes good planning and a real understanding of how landscapes develop throughout the year, particularly when managing multiple sites and maintenance programmes.

👉 We’re currently looking for an experienced Landscaping Maintenance Manager to help lead this work from our Polegate, East Sussex team.

We’re recruiting a General Operative for our Fareham team and are looking for someone practical, reliable and comfortable with a varied working day.

We’re growing our landscaping division and need an experienced Landscaping Maintenance Manager who can bring together the planning, people and practical knowledge needed to keep multiple sites running well.

During the growing season, you’ll oversee maintenance, watering, aftercare, plant health and client reporting. During quieter periods, you’ll support soft landscaping, remedial works, replacement planting and wider project delivery.

It’s a varied role with plenty of responsibility and the opportunity to make your mark as the division continues to grow.

The growing season might be slowing down, but the work certainly isn’t.

Autumn brings a different set of priorities for our grounds maintenance teams. Cutting back seasonal growth, maintaining hedges and planted areas, clearing leaves and debris, and preparing sites for the colder and wetter months all help keep outdoor spaces safe, tidy and well managed.

Good grounds maintenance is about keeping on top of those seasonal changes throughout the year, rather than waiting until a site needs attention.

And with plenty of work ahead, we’re hiring too.

We’re looking for an experienced Landscaping Maintenance Manager to join Chaffin Works in Polegate.

This is a hands-on management role with a good balance of time on site and in the office. You’ll plan maintenance programmes, manage teams and resources, visit sites, monitor quality and plant health, communicate with clients and make sure works stay on track.

We’re looking for someone with experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance or soft landscaping who is organised, commercially aware and confident managing multiple sites.
