𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗖𝗛 𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧
FC PONTE GIRLS 3 - 2 AMARANTH
Absolutely fantastic game of football this morning over at cross gates, by both teams, but what a win from Ponte!
The girls kicked off positively and extremely confident, driving forward where ever possible and playing some lovely football across the pitch, ponte were looking the favourite to score first for sure. We didn’t stop piling on the pressure when the opposition had the ball, making it extremely hard for amaranth to break and with that saw us win almost every ball and look to counter. A long kick from our keeper to our striker saw her battle through Amaranths defenders and calmly slot it into the back of the net at an incredibly tight angle to put us in front. Amaranth were eager for an equaliser, and took every opportunity they could, our keeper pulled out some phenomenal saves and should be proud of the fantastic decisions she made in todays game to keep us in front as Amaranth could have quite easily put a few past us nearing the end of both halves.
Second half we lost momentum, Amaranth were dominating and unfortunately pinched an equaliser. With grit and determination to not walk away with another draw or loss though, the girls started to up their game again, every girl on the pitch working tirelessly, and working for each other. We remained physical and hungry, and it wasn’t long until we were rewarded with another well struck goal by our forward to put us back on the front foot. Both teams matching each other again half way through the second half, stepping up the attack putting defenders under incredible amounts of pressure, it was nervy but a great game of football. Midfield did their jobs fantastic today, working back to cover, creating goal scoring opportunities moving forward.
With not long left our winger took full advantage of the space in front of her and pulled out a worldie over the top of the keeper from a wide position, creating pandemonium at the sidelines. The atmosphere was unmatched today. Slight drop in concentration with 1 minute to go, Amaranth managed to squeeze in another goal, but it was Ponte who walked away with their much deserved 3 points this morning 👏🏼
