Portchester update 👷🏼‍♂️

Constructing dormer roofs with parapet walls and new roof above bay window. Stud walls will be going up in the next two days once the clients have decided on the layout out of their loft conversion. This remains flexible because none of the walls are structural.

I can’t wait to see the finished result on this project. Turning a vision into a beautiful new living space is what makes this job so rewarding and keeps my passion for construction alive.

Incase you didn’t know - A parapet wall is a low wall that extends above the edge of a roof. It helps improve safety, hides roofing materials and gutters, and gives a property a clean, finished appearance. They’re a popular feature on loft conversions, adding both practicality and kerb appeal.

🗓️ Friday Diary of a Managing Director 👷🏼‍♂️

5:00am – Hit the gym. It gives me a clear head and sets me up for a productive day.

6:30am – Back to the office. Wrote the job list for the day and reviewed a new project tender.

7:15am – At Covers picking up materials for our Southsea project.

8:00am – Visited the Southsea project to deliver materials, ensure work was up to date and completed to a high standard, and prepare a cutting list for next week’s work.

9:30am – Drove to Fareham to clear down a project, create a snagging list for the remaining finishing touches, and help the lads load up the truck as the project enters its final stages. Checked in with the client and apologised for a delay in the works.

The delay has been caused by a manufacturing fault with the bifold doors. The paint finish suffered from “tiger striping” after being dried too quickly during production.

11:30am – Visited our Portchester project to check progress, provide further details to the team, and check in with the client to ensure they were happy with everything. Dormers were the main focus of today’s work.

12:30pm – Lunch in the van.

1:00pm – Visited a new lead in Swanwick to meet a potential client and gather information for a quotation.

Called the architect to help move the quotation forward and discussed plans relating to building regulations.

2:30pm – Back to the Portchester project to help the lads get the steels into position.

Regrettably ate a delicious doughnut from the famous Soothills, kindly gifted to me by one of the lads. Soothills bakery ltd

3:45pm – Visited Howdens to revise a kitchen design for a flood-damage project in North End.

4:15pm – Back to the office to make 100 phone calls, reply to emails and check that everyone has been paid correctly for the week.

5:00pm – Finished work… I hope.

A fairly packed day, but by construction standards, a relatively easy one. No major surprises, no emergencies, and only one doughnut consumed. I’ll take that as a win.

Roof pitched, waiting for steels to be fabricated and then the dormers can be built on our Portchester project.

The cover over scaffold allows for the work to continue rain or shine.

We’ve realised that over the years we’ve spent all
of our time focused on delivering projects on site than we have keeping up with social media.

Truthfully, social media has never been something we’ve prioritised massively. Most of our time has always gone into managing projects, maintaining standards on site, and making sure our clients receive the level of workmanship and communication we pride ourselves on.

But we also know people now like to see more of the process behind the work, not just the finished result.

So moving forward, we’re going to make much more of an effort to share what goes on behind the scenes at Acorn Valley Ltd, including:

• Project progress updates
• Behind-the-scenes construction work
• Our approach to project management
• Tips, advice, and how we work

We currently have some great projects on the go in Porchester, Fareham, Southsea and Emsworth with more coming up, we look forward to sharing our progress.

Thank you to all past and current clients for trusting us with their project’s.
