A previous attempt to weld the crack between water jacket holes using tig welding ended in failure after first attempt as usual on cooling it cracked on the edge of the tig welding ,a second attempt to correct this was to weld again but go wider to cover the new cracks which failed again, the result of this tig repair was an infected weld site that was riddled with porosity leaking everywhere in the weld and around the edges where it had pulled on cooling,, this also has the effect of hardening the cast iron area ,
To correct this we had to remove the entire tig welding repair and repair again using our cast iron laser welding process. Although this is a repair we can undertake ,the customer has now incorporated more costs because we have to remove all.of the old repair which now makes the repair area larger, if this was laser welded from the start the area we would need to work would have been a quarter of the size ,the pictures show the results after the repair has been completed , laser welded and the head machined flat
