02/11/24 this is installation day of this years display, assembly point La Roma car park from 09:00

10/11/24 1st event of the day this years remembrance service
100 free children booklets 1st come basis
Order of service for adults attending
Parade from St saviour church to Ringley old bridge with standard bearer, pennant bearers , 6 poppy children.
2mins silence at 11:00 with closing presentation then pastie and peas at the Horseshoe pub ( 1st come basis once )

10/11/2024 2nd event of the day- candlelight of remembrance.
50p donation per tea light candle to be placed on ringley old bridge to remember the fallen hero’s from ringley and Prestolee and close loved ones no longer with us.

The collection and drop off for plastic bottles has now come to an end.

We have well and truly smashed our target.

We will now count and bag up all the completed poppies.

It’s now onto the next stage of the project, and once again we are going to require your help to pull this off and make it become reality once again.

On Saturday 2nd November at 09:30 we will be on La Roma car park where the waterfalls will both be laid out so that the red poppies can be individually attached.

We know from the experience of the last few years that this takes a few hours but with the more people that turn up, these hours can be massively reduced.

We are therefore asking you to please spare whatever time you have, and to come down to La Roma car park on the 2nd November, grab a few poppies and attach them.

We really cannot do this without you, and the weather, be what it may cannot stop us.

Like last year, for those of you that struggle to get down to floor level can still help by keeping the volunteers in brews, bacon butties, cakes and moral support.

This really is a huge undertaking and the more people that come down, be it young or old and help us place the poppies on the net will honestly help this project be a success and in doing so YOU will be part of the history of this village.

Today I saw a man selling poppies stop a lady and asked if he could re position her poppy. While doing so he told that lady she should wear the poppy on their right side; the red represents the blood of all those who gave their lives, the black represents the mourning of those who didn't have their loved ones return home, and the green leaf represents the grass and crops growing and future prosperity after the war destroyed so much. The leaf should be positioned at 11 o'clock to represent the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the time that World War One formally ended. He was worried that younger generations wouldn't understand this and his generation wouldn't be around for much longer to teach them. (copy and paste to share just like I did) 🌹 we must remember those from our current wars too!"
