We celebrated a significant milestone when we were officially handed the first four of our ten ‘passivhaus’ low energy homes at Hook Hollow, from Winsley White Building Contractors & Developers Ltd.
The £2.8 million development has been built in partnership with the community in Seend and Seend Cleeve.
Thanks to the airtight timber frame design it is the most energy efficient social housing development in the country – and may even be the most energy efficient of any passivehaus development in the UK.
Its air change rate of just 0.2ach@50Pa is well below the standard of 0.5.
It means energy bills are likely to be up to 80 per cent lower than standard new build homes – which could not be more important in these times of high energy prices.
We were delighted to be joined by our board members and representatives of Seend Parish Council and the Seend Community Land and Asset Trust, with whom we have worked so closely.
We took ownership of four of the two-bedroomed homes for rent. Two three-bedroomed homes, which are part-ownership, have been sold and we expect to take on the remaining three-bed, two-bed and two one-beds before the summer.
We are the development’s main funder but it has also been partly funded by Homes England’s Affordable Homes Programme, together with a contribution from Our Wiltshire.
Our thanks go to all our partners and contractors for their help and support during this project.
