Hounslow Council is fighting back against fly-tipping with a new campaign ‘Let’s Scrap Fly-tipping’ designed to raise awareness of illegal dumping of waste and educate residents and businesses about their responsibilities and how they can help keep the borough’s streets clean and tidy.

During 2019-20, 22,480 fly-tip incidents were reported in Hounslow. Between April 2020 and March 2021 alone Hounslow Highways cleared 56,959 bags of rubbish from our streets and it is estimated that cleaning up fly-tipping costs Hounslow taxpayers over £1 million a year. In 2019, Hounslow Council issued 4,803 Fixed Penalty Notices in relation to fly-tipping and littering on both public and private land.

Did you know many councils across the country have faced a surge in fly tipping. It has been widely reported fly tipping has increased substantially in 2021.

-tipping has a pernicious effect on the environment and property prices in the surrounding area. The chief cost, however, is the financial cost to the taxpayer of investigating and clearing up. The areas where the most amount of waste is fly-tipped, including remote locations such as highways, council land, farmland, footpaths and alleyways, represent a logistical and technological challenge for surveillance.
