A burr-free gear does not necessarily have a precisely controlled edge.

Removing burrs is one requirement. Achieving consistent, specified edge geometry is another—and that distinction matters in precision gear manufacture.

Even when other manufacturing requirements have been met, edge condition can remain a source of variation. Precision edge breaking can help reduce uncontrolled edge conditions that contribute to this variation. Consistent edge geometry can also reduce the risk of detached burrs and edge fragments contaminating lubricants and damaging gear flanks or bearings.

For manufacturers of EV reduction gears, aerospace transmissions, planetary gearsets and differential gears, that can mean:

✅ Greater manufacturing repeatability
✅ Reduced risk of loose-particle contamination
✅ Better protection for finished components
✅ Reduced manual finishing and rework
✅ Support for automated processing and traceability

As gear designs become increasingly complex and performance expectations continue to rise, edge condition can no longer be treated as an afterthought. It is another manufacturing variable that can be controlled, measured and optimised.

That's why precision edge breaking should be viewed not simply as burr removal, but as the controlled manufacture of an engineered edge.

Team TextureJet has been active across Europe this week ✈️

Jon and Louis have been showcasing our technology at Micronora in France, while one of our engineers has been on site in Belgium supporting a customer project.

Back at the office, the team has been keeping day-to-day operations running smoothly. We look forward to welcoming everyone back and hearing all about their trips...especially the food!

It’s great to see TextureJet represented across multiple countries in the same week as we continue to build our international presence and support our customers.
