The Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant has just increased from £7,500 to £9,000 when you switch from oil or LPG to an air source heat pump. That’s a serious contribution towards upgrading your home’s heating.

🔧 From heat-only to combi: All in a day’s work!

This neat little transformation was completed expertly by Craig and Elliott at a rental property in Chatham, converting an ageing heat-only system into a space-saving, ultra-efficient Viessmann 025 24kW combi boiler—all in just one day.

Here’s what we delivered:
✅ Full system conversion (heat-only to combi)
✅ Cylinder and tanks removed to free up space
✅ All-new copper pipework installed and tested
✅ Magnaclean Pro 2 filter added to protect the system

It’s a common misconception, but cranking your thermostat up doesn’t warm your home more quickly. It's simply tells your heating system to stay on for longer.

Here’s what to know:
• Your thermostat sets the target temperature, not the speed
• Setting it to 25°C instead of 20°C won’t heat faster — it just keeps the boiler running longer
• In fact, according to the Energy Saving Trust, each extra degree can add ~10% to your heating costs

💡 The smarter approach:
Find the lowest temperature you’re comfortable with and use that as your regular setting. Pair it with a timer or smart thermostat so your heating is only on when you actually need it.

❄️ Feeling the cold snap? Here’s a smarter way to run your boiler:

If your home feels like it takes hours to warm up, turning your heating on and off will be the likely culprit.

Instead, try this low-and-steady heating schedule for anyone with a programmable thermostat that maximises comfort and is the most economical way to manage your monthly energy cost 👇

🌅 05:30 – 08:30 → 19°C
Warm your home gently for your morning wake-up.

🌤 08:30 – 16:30 → 17°C
Drop the temp, but only slightly! A background temperature around 17°C stops your home from cooling down completely and keeps some warmth in the fabric of the building.

🌆 16:30 – 22:30 → 20°C
Increase the temperature for a comfortable evening, without overworking your boiler.

🌙 22:30 – 05:30 → 15.5–16°C
Opt for a nighttime setback that promotes sleep but stops your property's temp from dropping too far from a comfortable baseline.

💡 Top tip: If you’re out all day, don’t switch it off! Set a temporary 15.5–16°C instead and let your normal schedule resume when you’re home.
