⚠️Unsafe situation encountered on a recent boiler service highlighting the importance of getting your boiler serviced annually!

A new customer recently got in touch to arrange a boiler service as it had been 'a good few years' since it was last done.

Upon closer inspection this appliance was found to be leaking products of combustion Carbon Monoxide & CO2 into the boiler casing from a failed burner gasket on top of the heat exchanger 😬(picture 2)

It's clear to see this boiler was long overdue replacement seals and a full strip down service to clean through the heat exchanger.

Electrodes were replaced as they were seriously worn (picture 5) full brush and wash through of heat exchanger was completed a a new burner gasket was installed and combustions checks carried out before reinstating the appliance as safe to use.

This customer was very lucky that the service took place when it did as the potential for a fire, serious damage or worse was not far away.

It may seem like saving money by skipping a boiler service here and there but it really is a false economy as the condition of this boiler wasn't far from the point of no return. Regular maintenance ensures an extended lifespan, and continued safety of your appliance.

🔧 A busy start to the week with emergency call outs attended both Monday and Tuesday evening.

This evenings call out attended was to a no heating or hot water fault on a customers system, in Monmouthshire.

The boiler was found to be overheating, due to the circulation pump failing to circulate the water around the system.

A new Grundfoss circulation pump was fitted along with some new pump valves, washers, and system corrosion inhibitor, to get this customer back to working ways.

If you're in need of plumbing and heating works, be it an emergency, plumbing alterations, boiler servicing and installation, or just something you'd like sorted for peace of mind, let's get it sorted.

Starting and ending the day in the dark, who else loves January?🤦

A busy day today as a boiler install begins in Ross-on-Wye, followed by an after hours call out to attend a heating fault in Monmouth.❄️

A faulty Heating zone valve head was to blame for this customer having no heating, which was promptly replaced and they are back up and running again.

One of several small jobs completed today in Ross-on-Wye, system losing pressure due to a crack in the housing of the magnetic filter.

System drained down, new filter installed, inhibitor added for corrosion protection and repressurised the system. No more pressure problems for this customer with their heating now working as it should.

❗ATTENTION HOMEOWNERS/LANDLORDS❗

Today we attended an emergency call out for a leak at a property in Monmouthshire.

This was a close call for the owner of the property as luckily the leak occurred just before they left for work in the morning, and was quickly isolated at the mains before any serious damage occurred.

The leak was from a flexible tap connector in the downstairs toilet. Flexible tap connectors are commonly used in lots of domestic properties around the country as a means of connecting toilets, basins and baths to the hot and cold service pipework of the property.

They are made up of an internal rubber hose with an external metal braid (see pictures below).

As with everything made of rubber, over time, the integrity of the rubber hose degrades becoming weak and brittle, meaning the chance for a leak to occur. As you can see from the flexi hoses we were called out to, they were showing signs of rust and degradation, as well as the internal rubber showing through the braid.

If this customer hadn't been able to shut the water off immediately after the leak, or hadn't been home when it occurred, the house could have been exposed to litres and litres of mains pressure water throughout the entire ground floor all day, with nothing to stop it! You can imagine how much more serious this could have been if it was to happen upstairs in a property!

The main aim of this post is to make you, homeowners/tenants/landlords, aware of the potentially devastating damage of a burst flexible hose flooding your property, and the huge costs involved in repairing damage to flooring, ceilings, plaster etc..
Where by simply checking and spotting the signs early, followed by preventative maintenance, can save you having to spend lots of money on extensive home repairs.

If you see any of the signs on a flexible hose in your property that are similar to what is pictured below, or cause you concern for any reason, remember to isolate it if possible and contact us to come and replace it ASAP!

This post is not to condemn the use of flexible hoses as using high quality flexible hoses, installed correctly, is completely suitable for the job. It's just a reminder that they aren't something to have fitted and forget about!
