This week, we went back to one of our client's recently installed Sigenergy AC coupled system to add some panels to it... even though they don't have any room on their roof... so how & why did we do it?
The client has a new build house with 4 in-roof solar panels and a roof window in between. Originally, they wanted more panels on the roof, until we explained that it sadly wasn't possible, but maybe able to do a garden structure.
At this point, they opted to only have the AC coupled battery installed as it would work well with their EV tariff. This had an immediate impact, helping them save money immediately.
A short while later, the client came back to us asking what kind of garden structure we could do to add some panels. We settled on a lean-to pergola, following seeking advice from their builders and having confirmation that planning was not required.
We bespoke built a pergola:
150mm x 150mm uprights into 600mm deep holes, concreted in situ, 600mm x 600mm cross member, 200mm x 50mm wall plate with chemically fixed M12 threaded bolt into the brick work, 150mm x 50mm rafters @ 400mm centers, 18mm hardwood ply with 1.2mm rubber roof finish with black trims, finally finished with guttering into an added extension to the underground waste connection to the existing surface water drainage.
We fitted 8 x JA Solar 465Wp all black panels, 3.72kWp, to Renusol mini rail with EPDM bottom, fixed into the 150mm timber using 80mm pan head screws.
Not all solar panels need to be on the roof of your house. If you have a little bit of garden, other options are available!
