πŸŽ‰ 15 Years of M&S – Part 4: Making Room to Grow

November 2011.

Just a few months after starting M&S Boxes, things were already moving faster than we could have imagined.

What had seemed like plenty of space when we first moved into the warehouse was quickly becoming a challenge as more work came through the doors. It was a good problem to have, but a problem nonetheless.

Rather than relocating so soon after getting established, we decided to make better use of the space we already had.

The solution was to have a mezzanine floor fabricated and installed within the warehouse. This allowed us to move our office upstairs, freeing up valuable floor space below for production, while also creating a much-needed storage area.

Looking back, it was one of the first clear signs that the business was growing.

Every improvement we made in those early days wasn't about comfort or convenienceβ€”it was about creating capacity, working smarter, and making sure we could keep up with demand while continuing to provide the service our customers relied on.

From an empty warehouse just a few months earlier to already needing additional space, 2011 was proving to be an exciting year for M&S.

πŸŽ‰ 15 Years of M&S – Part 3: Building the Foundations

July 2011.

With the external repairs complete and years of accumulated rubbish cleared away, we could finally turn our attention to the inside of the warehouse.

This was the stage where the empty building slowly started to become a functioning business.

The floors were cleaned, repaired and painted. Machinery was purchased and installed. Air lines were fitted for our compressed air tools. Every corner of the warehouse was transformed through plenty of hard work, determination and long days.

We also set up our very first office – a small but mighty office shed that became the headquarters for everything from customer enquiries and quotations to planning jobs and managing deliveries.

Looking back now, it's amazing to think how much was achieved with such limited resources. Every improvement, every machine and every piece of equipment represented another step forward.

There was still a huge amount to learn and plenty of challenges ahead, but for the first time, M&S Boxes was starting to look and feel like a real business.

The foundations had been laid. Now it was time to start winning work.

πŸŽ‰ 15 Years of M&S – Part 2: The First Warehouse

July 2011.

This was the moment the dream really started to take shape.

After taking the leap and starting M&S Boxes, we received the keys to our very first warehouse. As you can see from the photos, it wasn't exactly move-in ready and needed more than a little TLC!

Thanks to Stephen's contacts within the engineering sector, along with a long-time friend, Mick, owner of Balmforth Transport, we were given the opportunity to use part of their yard and warehouse space as our first home.

Looking back now, it's hard to believe this was where it all began.

Whilst Stephen was busy seeing the potential, Mark can be seen in the photo looking around and probably thinking, "What the hell have I got myself into?" πŸ˜†

Like most new businesses, there was plenty of uncertainty, a lot of hard work ahead, and no guarantees. What there was, however, was determination, a willingness to roll up our sleeves, and a belief that we could make it work.

From this modest warehouse in July 2011, the foundations of M&S Boxes & Packaging Ltd were laid.

15 years later, we're proud to look back on where it all started.

πŸŽ‰ 15 Years of M&S Boxes & Packaging Ltd – Part 1: Where It All Began

This month marks our 15th year in business, and we thought there was no better way to celebrate than by sharing our story.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be taking you right back to the beginning and showing how we've grown from a small start-up into the business we are today.

It all started in June 2011.

The name M&S came from two long-time friends, Mark and Stephen, who decided to take a leap into the unknown and start a business together.

Before M&S, Stephen had built his career in engineering from the ground up. Starting as a teenager, he worked his way through every level of the industry, from cleaning floors and operating machinery to becoming Works Manager at ESS, a multi-million-pound engineering company. Managing teams, coordinating customer orders, organising deliveries and overseeing operations gave him invaluable experience. Interestingly, one part of his role involved sourcing wooden export crates for overseas shipments – something that would later become the foundation of M&S.

At the same time, Mark was busy running his own successful career as a commercial and domestic electrician, alongside property development projects. Always keen for a challenge, he saw the potential in Stephen's idea to supply wooden crates and pallets.

With no previous experience of running a business, but plenty of determination, hard work and belief, the pair decided to give it a go.

That decision, made back in 2011, was the beginning of what would become M&S Boxes & Packaging Ltd.

Stay tuned as we continue our journey through the years and share some of the milestones, challenges and successes that have shaped the business over the last 15 years.

πŸŽ‰ Celebrating 15 Years of M&S Boxes & Packaging Ltd πŸŽ‰

This year marks an important milestone for us as we celebrate 15 years in business.

From our early days building export cases and bespoke wooden packaging solutions to becoming a trusted partner for customers across a wide range of industries, it's been an incredible journey.

Over the coming weeks, we'll be sharing a series of photos and memories that showcase how far we've come, from where we started to where we are today. From our first projects and workshop setups to some of the large-scale export packaging solutions we deliver today, we're proud to reflect on the journey that has shaped M&S.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our dedicated team, loyal customers, trusted suppliers, and everyone who has been part of our story over the last 15 years.

Thank you for being part of the journey so far. Here's to the next chapter.

M&S Boxes and Packaging Latest Project

As part of a major acquisition involving a leading automotive manufacturer, we recently supported a client with specialist equipment located on-site in Luton.

Our scope of work included attending the site in Luton, carefully loading the equipment, and coordinating transport back to our facility in Rotherham. Once in Rotherham, we carried out export packing to ensure the machinery was fully protected and compliant for international sea freight.

Following packing, the equipment was securely stored at our facility for several months, providing the client with flexibility while the next phase of the project was arranged.

We then organised the onward shipment from the UK to Poland, where the machinery will undergo a complete refurbishment.

A great example of end-to-end project management, combining logistics, export packing, secure storage, and international shipping expertise.
