First weekend of LaSERs SSDIC completed.
Weather definately on our side.
Big thanks to the DS, especially those travelling long distances from Kent and West Mercia.

Another first, all the students turned up! Including students from Yorkshire and Birmingham.

One more weekend to go. And we’re ahead of schedule, well done all.

Over recent weeks, RAF Northolt has hosted Adult Staff from London and South East Region Air Training Corps as they underwent a compact Drill Instructor’s Course. Delivered by Regional Warrant Officers’ Ian Greenaway and Darren Clothier, and under the watchful eye of the SWO Andy Harris, personnel were guided through mandated teaching techniques and further strengthened their links with Service ethos and culture.

RAF Northolt is proud to support the Royal Air Force Air Cadet Organisation and the excellent work that they do in positively developing the next generation.

Ok a simple one today…

When a squad is marching in line. If the order about turn is given. And the squad has a blank file with only one person in it. What action does that person take upon hearing the part of the order ‘about’?

What would you need to order to prevent the single person in the blank file from taking action?

What have i been up to this week. D&C camp. Ive been honored to be the Parade Marshall this year. My hat is tipped to all the cadets and staff who pulled this off today. Weather was a huge worry this morning, but it turned out ok.
Cadets, banner teams, executives, marker, guides, supers, continuity team, logs, admin, medical, armourers and the purple people.
A hard week but totally worth it

Here at D&C having a nosey around the SSDIC. I recall that when (then) CDC started being used, I anticipated that Staff would be involved up front and drive the standards up. As it turned out, the cadets were returning to unit and challenging the ‘norms’. It was the cadets that drove the standards up. I can see a similar thing happening here.

A question for all the new DIs then? And any RAFAC who likes a bit of drill.

Wing Review.
2nd March past (in line) where is the WWO positioned (ie location around the flight, and which Sqn/ Flight) after everyone has turned and execs and supers have repositioned?

Inaugural L&SER SSDIC completed.
I’m sure the students would agree this is a mentally demanding course. There have been some close calls, tears and banter.
Through it all we have 6 new DIs starting their drill SME journey.
Congratulations to them all. My thanks also goes to the DS who stepped up and travelled quite the distance to participate. FS Eleanor Cain and WO Darren Clothier (RWO SW). NOR SWO was an integral part of the weekend and as you can see was happy to get involved.

I am immensely proud of what these 6 have achieved and I’m honoured to have been the opportunity to train and assess them alongside my DS colleagues.

As you can tell, I'm not on social media that much these days.

But I thought i'd share today. As RWO LaSER i've been accompanying the Regional Commandant around the units that were nominated as best in their Wing for the Lees Trophy. In the end I could only get to three of them. Its always good to interact with Cadets and staff on unit. The post of RWO can be quite isolated from that part of RAFAC so its good to get back into it when i can. The results of the Region Nomination are out to the OC Wings.

Last night I did visit closer to my natural habitat...Drill. I went over to 94 (Feltham) and recently to 328 (Kingston) as a low key visit just to witness and teach some drill to cadets. Its fair to say that COVID impacted the NCO structure on Sqns quite widely. So for me it was great to see the NCOs I met taking notes on what I was teaching and learning some new 'tricks' to help them teach drill.
On both occasions the cadet being taught were quite junior and it was really pleasing to see the improvements in timing and understanding of the concepts over an evening. I'm looking to make some more visits as timing and geography permits.

I'm more than happy to take requests for visits if you want me to come down and maybe teach you some things that might surprise you about drill.

Thank you to the OCs and Staff at those two units.
