Why choose Lunds for laser engraving?

When your parts need marks that last, laser engraving gives you permanence and precision in one process. Here's why customers choose us:

• Permanent, durable results: engraved marks resist wear, chemicals and surface treatments, so identification and branding stay readable for the life of the part
• Fibre laser precision: our fibre laser technology delivers exceptional accuracy, producing fine text, tight geometries and complex logos without burring or heat distortion
• Integrated with fabrication: engraving happens in-house, alongside cutting, forming, welding and finishing, so your parts never leave our premises during production
• Wide material compatibility: we engrave mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium, brass and copper, covering every material we use in our fabrication work
• Traceability and compliance support: we apply serial numbers and batch codes for customers in regulated industries, including aerospace, defence and medicine
• Scalable from prototype to production: whether you need one engraved prototype or a high-volume run, our process delivers consistent, accurate results at every scale

Some materials demand more than standard capability.

Armour grade sheet metal is among the most demanding to fabricate. High hardness, tight tolerances, and the precision required to maintain structural integrity throughout the process mean this is specialist work, and our press brake and cutting machinery is proven in handling it.

Our team have extensive experience fabricating components for the defence industry from armour grade sheet, with the equipment capability and technical expertise to meet the exacting standards these projects require.

We also understand that work of this nature often carries specific confidentiality requirements. All defence sector enquiries and projects are handled with the appropriate discretion.

Clients with armour fabrication requirements are welcome to contact us directly to discuss their needs on 01903 784242 or visit www.lunds.co.uk.

Some skills take years to develop. Some take decades.

At Lunds, we have both. Our workshop is home to engineers, fabricators, welders and operators who between them represent a significant depth of manufacturing knowledge, built across careers spent working with metal.

That matters more than it might seem. Modern CNC machinery and robotic systems can achieve extraordinary precision, but the judgement calls - how a material will behave under pressure, where a weld needs a human hand, when a design needs questioning before it reaches the shop floor - those come from experience you can't programme into a machine.

We're proud to work with people who take genuine pride in what they make. In an industry where quality is measured in fractions of a millimetre, that attitude makes a real difference.

From apprentice to senior engineer, the team at Lunds is the reason our clients keep coming back.

Q. What's the difference between powder coating and wet paint?

A. Powder coating applies dry powder electrostatically then cures it under heat, creating an extremely durable, uniform finish resistant to chipping and corrosion. Wet paint is liquid-applied and air or heat-dried, offering greater colour flexibility and the ability to match exact colour specifications. Powder coating generally provides superior durability, whilst wet paint offers more colour options.

Why choose Lunds for sheet metal design services?

Our design team works alongside our fabrication team every day, which means every design is practical, process-aware and optimised for manufacture from the start.

Here's what that looks like in practice:
• Designers who manufacture. Unlike design-only consultancies, our designers work with our fabrication team daily - producing designs that are practical, economical, and ready to build without costly revisions
• Proven across sectors. From security brackets throughout the London Underground network to aerospace components and consumer products, we've designed for industry leaders across multiple sectors
• Engineering-led. Structural calculations and performance validation give you confidence in the integrity of your product before a single piece of metal is cut
• End-to-end. Design, prototype, refine, and manufacture all under one roof - saving time, reducing cost, and keeping quality consistent throughout
• 3D visualisations. Fully rendered models help you secure stakeholder buy-in and make informed decisions before committing to production
• CAD compatible. With PTC Creo and SolidWorks, we can work with virtually any 2D or 3D data you provide, or start from your sketches

Some of our clients have been with us for decades. That doesn't happen by accident.

In manufacturing, trust is built slowly and lost quickly. Lead times, tolerances, communication when something needs resolving, every job is a test of whether you're the kind of partner worth keeping.

At Lunds, we've been passing that test since 1898.

From our dedicated factory units in West Sussex, we handle precision sheet metal fabrication, structural steelwork, specialist welding, large-scale assemblies, and the manufacture of complex components for the flight simulation sector. Our in-house capabilities cover every stage from design and laser cutting through to powder coating and final delivery, so our clients deal with one team, one set of standards, and one point of accountability throughout.

What keeps long-term relationships strong isn't just technical capability. It's the attitude behind it: treating every project as if our reputation depends on the outcome, because it does.

If you're looking for a fabrication partner you can genuinely rely on, we'd like to talk. Call our expert team on 01903 784242 or visit www.lunds.co.uk.

Why choose Lunds for sheet metal folding?

It starts with the right equipment. With four press brakes ranging from 1 to 3 metres and 100 to 170 tonnes of forming capacity, we match the machine to the job rather than the other way around. Our Amada CNC press brakes deliver consistent, repeatable bends with tight tolerances across every part in a run, and the Amada HFEII's sheet followers handle larger components with the kind of accuracy that reduces distortion and keeps your finished parts true.

But equipment only gets you so far. Our operators bring years of experience in complex folding applications, and as a full-service fabrication company, we can take your project all the way from cutting and folding through to welding and finishing under one roof.

Single prototype or full production run, we have the capacity and the expertise to deliver.

Q. What's the advantage of punch laser combination technology?

A. The combination of punching and laser cutting in one machine offers the best of both worlds: high-speed punching for repetitive hole patterns and precision laser cutting for complex profiles and intricate details, all without moving your part to a second machine.

That matters more than it might sound. Every time a part transfers between machines, you introduce handling time, potential for misalignment, and another step in the process. A hybrid machine eliminates all of that.

Our 30-tonne punch laser combination machine runs a 45-station turret, so complex parts with multiple hole sizes, shapes, and formed features can be completed in a single setup with no tool changes. We also have a dedicated 4-station tapping turret that creates threads automatically during the punching cycle, removing the need for secondary tapping operations entirely.

And when deadlines are tight, our 24-hour lights-out operation capability keeps production running overnight and at weekends without compromising on quality.

One machine. One setup. Less handling, less time, less cost.

Not all welds are equal.

The process matters. The material matters. The thickness matters. And so does who's holding the torch.

At Lunds, our skilled welders combine decades of experience with multiple welding techniques to deliver strong, reliable joints across a wide range of materials and applications, from delicate thin-gauge work to heavy structural assemblies.

We don't just weld. We specify. MIG for speed and versatility. Pulse MIG where heat control is critical. TIG where the finish has to be flawless. Robotic welding where consistency across a production run is non-negotiable.

Our team holds BS EN ISO 9606-1:2017 certification - not a badge on the wall, but documented proof of competence for every critical joint we produce.

If your next project demands welds you can trust, we'd like to hear about it.
