Our own Rebeca Jones has completed 12 months as part of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) Wales Foundation Group.

The cohort is aiming to shape the future of the industry and has played a key role in encouraging the next generation to consider a career in civil engineering.

As part of the group, Rebeca, who is a Quantity Surveyor, has helped create a brochure spotlighting career pathways, jobs, and case studies aimed at key stage 4 pupils.

The team is also preparing to take part in Careers Wales’ Work in Focus challenges, creating five lessons for year 8 and 9 learners in a bid to embed real-life work-related scenarios into the curriculum.

Rebeca said: “It’s been a busy year and we’re proud to have produced this high-quality brochure that we hope will encourage more young people to join the sector after reading our members’ own career journeys.

“The brochure shows that there are multiple routes into civil engineering, with myself taking the university path and some of my colleagues entering via apprenticeship programmes. There’s really something for everyone.”

🌟 Kinmel Bay’s £15 million Coastal Defence Scheme has been completed. 🌟

Appointed by Conwy County Borough Council, we delivered several shoreside improvements as the Principal Contractor to reduce flooding risks for more than 2,000 residential and commercial properties, including:

- Procuring nearly 66,500 tonnes of rock armour – 96% of which was locally sourced – to reinforce the revetment between Towyn and Kinmel Bay.
- Raising 2km of existing seawall by 560-750mm and replacing 2 floodgates to protect against stormy weather and coastal flooding.
- Constructing 8 new stepped or ramped access points to the beach and new street furniture.
- Upgrading St Asaph Avenue car park and 2 other mini parklets.

Carefully phased work kept disruption to residents and visitors to a minimum, with half of the beach remaining open to the public and access to the promenade maintained throughout all but one week of the 12-month programme.

Site practices focused on respecting the community, caring for the environment, and valuing the workforce, earning this project a rating of “excellent” from the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).

Jones Bros Project Manager Sam Roberts said: “It’s been fantastic to work alongside Conwy County Borough Council to deliver such an important scheme, one that will no doubt help preserve the existing infrastructure from flooding and storm damage.”

We’re thrilled to announce we’ve been appointed Principal Contractor for the £100m Carno III Wind Farm in Powys.

As the first significant wind farm development in mid Wales for nearly a decade, our team will carry out crucial grid reinforcement works to deliver the 10-turbine, 45MW project.

Our scope will also include constructing the turbine foundations, a new on-site substation and control building, undertaking cabling works, upgrading existing access tracks and creating new ones, as well as enhancing highways to facilitate deliveries.

Led by Carno 3 LLP, a joint venture between Gresham House and Amegni Renewables, the completed scheme is expected to generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 46,000 homes annually, saving approximately 65,000 tonnes of CO2.
