As we wrap up an incredible year at Spaceport Cornwall, we’ve been reflecting on just how much has taken off in 2025…

✨ 12 inspiring school visits - well not 12 more like 40 in school visits and even more visiting our facility

🧑‍🚀 11 wide-eyed future space explorers (per session… at least!)

🔬 10, 000 curious questions that stopped us in our tracks

🛰 9 conversations about Cornwall’s place in the space economy just in one afternoon of work experience… that’ll be 70 work experience students

🌍 8 moments of awe at Earth from above - whilst hosting our T Level students from Truro College

🪨 7 critical minerals sparking big ideas… thanks to Cornish Metals for your time

✈️ 6 supportive partners working behind the scenes plus quite a few more you all know who you are 😊 From Tech Girls to The Jon Egging Trust, Tech Cornwall, GEL Limited…

🚌 5 volunteer parent drivers (transport heroes!) and many more volunteers that have supported us during events

📚 4-year groups discovering space careers in one school…We have worked with students in reception classes, secondary students, colleges, universities and home educational groups

🧠 3 lightbulb moments we’ll never forget - so many moments that have filled us with joy

🤝 2 incredible partners at Cornwall Airport Newquay plus Avanti, HaLo, Open Skies Network, Cornwall Space Cluster and Primary Engineers for your time, energy and conversations

🌟 And 1 shared mission: inspiring the next generation of the space industry.

“We’re delighted to be working with Spaceport Cornwall and Cornwall Airport Newquay to develop a dual-use opportunity that benefits the airport, the county, and the wider region.” - Helen Stembridge, Director at WholeShip’s National Drone Hub.

Together, we’re combining our facilities to create advanced testing environments for uncrewed aerial systems. Supported by Cornwall Space Cluster, this collaboration will enable development and certification of autonomous technologies, from small-scale drones to supersonic uncrewed vehicles.

🚀 Work is officially underway on a groundbreaking project that strengthens Cornwall’s position as a leader in next-gen aviation and autonomous flight.

We’re teaming up with Cornwall Airport Newquay and WholeShip’s National Drone Hub with support from Cornwall Space Cluster to create one-of-a-kind testing environment for uncrewed aerial system testing.

By combining our facilities at Newquay with NDH’s 320-hectare site and 8,000+ sq km of segregated airspace, we’re building the infrastructure needed to develop and certify the autonomous systems of the future, including those flying at supersonic speeds. ✈️⚡

🚀 We’re delighted to share that Spaceport Cornwall, operating from Cornwall Airport Newquay has been shortlisted by the ESA - European Space Agency for the INVICTUS hypersonic test programme. This is a major milestone for the UK and Europe’s future flight ambitions.

INVICTUS will deliver a hypersonic flight test capability unlike anything currently available in Europe.

Working alongside Frazer-Nash Consultancy, we’re proud to support the development of this pioneering platform and help demonstrate Cornwall’s value to the global aerospace community. With our combined status as a licensed spaceport, commercial passenger airport, civil aerodrome, and military operating base, Spaceport Cornwall offers an operational environment that is unmatched for developers of future flight technologies - pairing extensive infrastructure with dedicated airspace.

Noah Law, MP for St Austell and Newquay, shared: “INVICTUS would be an immensely welcome, long-term partner for and the kind that such a fine aerospace asset as Spaceport Cornwall - with one of the longest runways in the country and dedicated airspace - deserves.”

We had a fantastic time at our work experience week!

We welcomed an enthusiastic group of students eager to dive into aviation, aerospace and engineering careers. The day was filled with inspiring talks, a brilliant role-models panel, creative tower-building activities, and immersive workshops.

It’s been amazing to see so many young people excited about the future of flight and innovation. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!

From Cornwall to Kunisaki!

Earlier this year, students from Richard Lander School in Truro travelled to Kunisaki High School in Oita, Japan, for a cultural exchange as part of a wider international programme involving Richard Lander, Treviglas Academy, and Truro & Penwith College.

Their visit included a souvenir-making workshop, cultural experiences, and future-facing conversations about space collaboration.

The trip also featured a visit to Bascule and the Kibo Space Lab experience, developed with JAXA, offering a glimpse into Japan’s innovation in space education.

This international exchange is helping inspire the next generation of space thinkers and global citizens.
