🚧 Elburton Groundworks | Plot 1 & Plot 2 Progress 🚧

Another busy phase on site, with 54m³ of RC32/40 concrete line pumped into the Plot 2 sandwich retaining wall foundation.

Before getting the concrete in, we secured the Section 171 notice and installed a temporary site entrance, including:

Dropped kerbs and kerb adaptations

4 tonnes of base tarmac laid to provide temporary site access

Temporary access prepared to keep the works moving efficiently

Meanwhile, blockwork to the Plot 1 sandwich retaining wall is well underway, with the rear works including:

Land drain installed

Black Jack waterproofing applied

Double drain tanking installed to the rear

For the concrete pours, 5m³ of RC32/40 is being placed per pour in 450mm increments, helping to control pressure and prevent the blockwork from blowing out during the pour.

A lot of preparation behind the scenes, but another solid step forward on the project. 💪🏗️

🚧 Groundworks – the part of every build that's often overlooked, but arguably the most important. 🚧

Everything above ground relies on getting what's below it right first.

On this project, our team has completed:

✅ F104 diversion – 4 metres deep and 60 metres long
✅ Traditionally benched manholes
✅ Oversite drainage signed off by Building Control
✅ Plot drainage installation – foul & storm systems
✅ 103m² of block and beam flooring

Quality groundwork isn't always the most visible part of a project, but it's what ensures everything built on top stands the test of time.

🚧 Project Update – Elburton 🚧

It's great to see this project progressing in Elburton, where we've been involved from the very beginning.

Our team has completed:
✔️ Foundations
✔️ Underbuild masonry
✔️ Oversite drainage
✔️ Block and beam flooring
✔️ 65mm Agilia Fibre Screed installed over the underfloor heating system

Agilia Fibre Screed is an ideal solution for underfloor heating, providing excellent flow, a perfectly level finish, and outstanding thermal conductivity to maximise the system's efficiency. The fibre-reinforced mix also helps improve durability and reduce the risk of shrinkage cracking.

Seeing the project develop from the ground up is always rewarding, and we're proud to have delivered every stage of the substructure and floor construction to a high standard. The screed now provides a strong, smooth base, ready for the next phase of the build.

Further groundworks completed at Elburton🏠

This job involved carrying out RIW double drain tanking to the rear of a sandwich wall, ensuring long-term protection and durability where it matters most.

The excavation was then carefully backfilled using clean stone in controlled layers, with each layer compacted thoroughly to achieve the correct stability and support against the wall structure.

We also installed 4.5m deep foul drainage using a pipe laser system to maintain precise line and level throughout the run, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance from start to finish.

Attention to detail, proper preparation, and quality workmanship are key on every project we undertake.

Hoggin path complete 👷‍♂️

Another quality project wrapped up at Kingsteignton for Tilia Homes.

This job saw the installation of a new stepped access route down a very steep embankment, designed to improve both usability and long-term safety for residents. With the challenging gradient and uneven ground conditions, careful excavation and preparation were essential to create a solid, reliable foundation.

Our team carried out precise setting out and installation, ensuring every step was level, secure, and consistent throughout. Working on such a slope came with its challenges — from access and material handling to maintaining stability — but the team delivered throughout.

To finish, we installed a hoggin path alongside the steps, providing a natural, durable surface that complements the surroundings while remaining practical in all weather conditions.

A demanding project from start to finish, but a great result that showcases teamwork, attention to detail, and pride in the job — all with some cracking views to go with it 🌿

We’re looking for a Groundworks Apprentice to join our team – a great opportunity for someone looking to start a career in construction.

🛠️ What you’ll be doing:
Assisting with general groundwork tasks
Preparing sites for construction (clearing, digging, levelling)
Helping with drainage, foundations, and concreting
Working alongside experienced groundworkers to learn the trade
Using tools and equipment safely on site

🔨 What we offer:

A strong delivery on this latest RIG project, completed safely, efficiently, and to programme.

We’re proud to have worked alongside leading contractors and suppliers to bring this package together — with specialist support from JAW Hire and Tamar Landscapes Ltd all contributing to a high-quality finish across the site.

Scope of works delivered:
• Construction of 4 reinforced concrete access ramps
• Installation of 50 linear metres of hoarding
• Installation of 100 linear metres of post and rail fencing
• 1000m² of site levelling and gravel surfacing
• Installation of 250 linear metres of ducting
• 80 linear metres of kneerail
• Placement of 60m³ of concrete

Additional works included precise laser levelling of blocks to required tolerances, ensuring site offices can be installed perfectly level, installation of secure compound hoarding, and commencement of the designated car park area.

All works were completed to a strict deadline, with careful coordination across multiple trades to maintain programme and quality standards throughout.

Final elements included bespoke planter installation, and hydroseeding — delivering an excellent finish to the landscaped areas (some great photos from this stage 🌱). Many thanks to RMB Hydroseeding.
